Sensational Selwyn

Selwyn is right on our doorstep and has some great day or overnight trips to get out of the city for the weekend.

Our picks to hunt out:

  • Check out the wineries! Melton Estate is open from 10am - 5pm Thursday to Sunday for lunch or just pop in for a wine and snack. True and Daring is a gorgeous winery and offers tasting of their Riesling and other local wines, it's worth a visit just to meet Sipho the sellotape crazy border collie!
  • Arthur's Pass is just a couple of hours drive and along the route there are some great short walks. Make sure you finish your day with a refreshing drink and snacks for your trip home at the Bealey Hotel...stunning views!
  • Crisp still mornings with the sun rising across the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps makes Selwyn a stunning location for hot air ballooning. Check out Ballooning Canterbury for a truly memorable and special experience.

Kapa Haka in the city

Te Matatini is here till Sunday March 8. It's the first time in over 30 years that the Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival is back in Christchurch and is expected to bring 30,000 people to the city over the competition.
