New IC-IMPACTS Project Demonstration
at KRS Dam in Mysore, India

Dr. Vivek Bindiganavile (University of Alberta, Canada) and Dr. Narayana Suresh (National Institute of Engineering, India) are set for a field demonstration of their innovative sustainable material on the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore, India. The Dam was built 100 years ago and is in desperate need of repair on the downstream side of the structure.

Dr. Bindiganavile and Dr. Suresh have developed fibre-reinforced lime and lime-cement mortar material that significantly reduces the water permeability and increases structural strength. The researchers will be applying their material on three, 100 square foot patches using different techniques.

The demonstration is expected to last a full year where the materials and the dam will be closely monitored to study changes, with results being used to help tailor repair solutions and monitoring methods for future activities.

DST & DBT Joint Calls Close to a Success
