2015 AGM & Research Conference

IC-IMPACTS will be hosting its 2nd Annual General Meeting and Research Conference on March 12-13, 2015 at The University of British Columbia.

The two day event will feature keynote panels on the infrastructure challenges in Canada and India, and on conducting and deploying water-related research in India. The event will also include presentations from each research project funded by IC-IMPACTS, showcasing the Centre’s innovations in Water Quality Sensing, Water Treatment, Safe and Sustainable Infrastructure, and Public Health.

Attendees will also get a chance to view poster presentations highlighting graduate level-research, and view presentations from the top 5 high school students selected from the
IC-IMPACTS Ganga River Essay Competition.

Community Engagement Fellowships for 2015 Available Now

IC-IMPACTS and Engage North from the University of Alberta have launched the 2015 Community Engagement Fellowship program. This initiative places undergraduate and graduate students on community-driven projects in the communities of the Dene Tha' First Nation, Alberta and the Beaver First Nation, Alberta. 2 graduate-level and 2 undergraduate-level programs taking place in the Summer of 2015 are currently available for students to apply to. Applications are due Friday, March 6, 2015.

IC-IMPACTS Hosts Winter School on Infrastructure Advancements

On January 14 & 15, 2015, IC-IMPACTS, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) jointly held a Winter School in Hyderabad, India. The two day program, held at IIT Hyderabad, brought together professors and students from various TEQIP institutions for training on advancements in structural engineering and materials.

By providing courses in structural health monitoring, condition inspections, and strengthening techniques, IC-IMPACTS, ASCE, and TEQIP are ensuring future building professionals in India are equipped with advanced skills and the latest procedures in the working environment.

IC-IMPACTS Educates Practitioners on Advanced Infrastructure Materials

On January 5, 2015, IC-IMPACTS was present at the Stewols Knowledge Forum, an interactive session organized by Stewols India to educate attendees on advances in Resilient Concrete Infrastructure.

As practitioners are still hesitant in using these new technologies at full capacity, the event was a step forward in helping increase the knowledge base on such advances.

UPDATES
Canada-India Research Proposals Joint Call Closed

IC-IMPACTS and the Department of Science & Technology's Joint Call for Research Proposals closed on January 27, 2015.  The Call was received with great interest as nearly 50 collaborative research proposals were submitted from researchers in the infrastructure and water sectors.  The submission review process has begun, funding decisions will be made by April 2015.
 
Ganga River Essay Competition Completed

IC-IMPACTS successfully launched a competition for young innovators to propose solutions on how to restore the Ganga River.  BC Students in Gr 10-12 were tasked on outlining their solutions in an essay format.  The competition closed on January 30, 2015 with numerous essays submitted.  Submissions are currently being reviewed, the top 5 authors will be invited to present their solutions at the IC-IMPACTS 2015 AGM & Research Conference.
Conference Registration is Now Open

ConMat'15 Construction Materials Conference is reminding researchers that registration for the conference is now open.  Interested attendees may register through the ConMat'15 Conference website.
