World Children's Day

ECSAT celebrated World Children’s Day on October 3rd with an event called Butterfly Wishes.
Children from Galle, Hikkaduwa and Matara attended and the afternoon started with all children dancing as butterflies.  Children joined one of the four groups creating the life cycle of the butterfly.  Afterwards, each group performed a dance for the parents and other children.  Roshan, the Programme Director, gave a vote of thanks to the children and parents for their support, Blue Fox hotel for the use of their hotel and Hikka Tranz for donating the sound system, refreshments and gifts.  The event ended with the children receiving gifts.

Transforming Livelihoods and Lives
On October 9th ECSAT launched a new project for income generation training and support for families affected by disability. Children welcomed the guests by offering betel leaves. The chief guest was the Galle Four Gravets Divisional Secretariat Mr. Sathyananda Wijesekana and other invitees included 04 Counsellors, 01 Grama Niladari and 02 Social Service officers. Many parents and volunteers attended.

The chief guest gave a speech acknowledging the work of ECSAT and wishing success for the new project. Further he highlighted the importance of this project for young adults with disabilities because there is no equivalent service in the Southern Province.  All the invitees went on a tour and observed groups practicing their activities.

Term tests
During November ECSAT conducted end of year tests for Pre-school, one-to-one support, school preparation classes, after school classes and vocational training.  The students were grouped into Pre-school and four groups, B group, D group, E group and F group.  The exam was separated into morning and afternoon.  Each paper was two hours and children could get the idea of time management.  Some children worked independently and others received teacher support.  This was a good opportunity for children to understand the importance of revising their knowledge.
