I would like to thank everyone who has sent messages asking about the welfare of our staff and beneficiaries following the recent bombings.
Dear Supporters and Well Wishers,
I would like to thank everyone who has sent emails, texts, phone calls and skype messages asking about the welfare of our staff and beneficiaries following the recent bombings in Sri Lanka. All our staff and beneficiaries are safe and I express my sympathies for the families of the people who died and those who are suffering life changing injuries.
For safety concerns, beneficiaries have stayed at home and will be returning the week beginning May 21st.
In the meantime, I have used the opportunity to develop the staff capacity to provide a better service for everyone.
We have conducted staff training in:
the teacher’s role coping with epileptic fits from the doctor’s point of view
sensory skill development
ways to support different types of disability.
We are also carrying out an internal audit in our Galle, Matara and Hikkaduwa centres to regulate our assessment procedures.
On Friday May 17th ECSAT staff had an exposure visit to Helabeem Sri Lanka, a specialised vocational training centre for young males with a physical disability. They shared experiences and knowledge of rehabilitation and learned from each other. ECSAT staff also presented a short dance and drama programme for the enjoyment of their hosts.
Thank you again for your support and concern. To know we have such a thoughtful community supporting our work makes what we do so much more meaningful and important.
With kind regards,
Roshan Samarawickrama, ECSAT Programme Director, Sri Lanka
