Welcome to the October issue

As we move into autumn the flurry of sales activity eases, and any troublesome deals can hopefully be brought to a conclusion.

September’s weather was unusually good, extending the season and providing a good base for the Southampton International Boat Show, which by all accounts seems to have been good for boat sales. We have also had Association information on display at the Scotland Boat Show at Kip Marina, thanks to Michael Schmidt & Partner.

We are preparing for the AGMs – if you would like to stand for your association’s committee please let me know as soon as possible so you can be included in the voting list that goes out with the papers. Sitting on a committee does give a good insight into the work of the associations.

Details of the AGMs, as well as the training day and Members’ Dinner have been sent out using the CRM system with a detailed form and the ability to pay direct from the form. We have piloted this system with several events and this is the first time we have used it for a whole-Membership event.

The event includes the opportunity for a tour of Peter Freebody boatyard and a visit to the Henley River and Rowing Museum, alongside the trainings, dinner and AGMs. Please book promptly as this greatly assists in the organisation of the events. We look forward to seeing you in November. Best wishes,

Jane Gentry

New Careers Leaflet - We have developed a new, simple leaflet on careers in surveying, design and brokerage. It doesn’t try to give all the answers, but is intended to provide some pointers to anyone looking at the possibility of a move into the Marine Industry. Copies of the leaflet will be available at the various shows, and you can download a copy to print out from the Members area of the website.
Staff Day at the Boat Show - The entire Glassworks team getting a taste of the marine industry (and a little bit of rain) at this year's Southampton Boat Show. Click on the photo for the full story.

YBDSA Invoices - We are doing away with Requests for Payment and instead you will receive an invoice for everything from Membership, Tonnage, Customs Warehouse or SCV. We are also moving over to cost accounting, so as much as possible will be sent by email to save on postage costs.

Going forward we are introducing the option of online card payment which we will be rolling out over the next few months, giving you and clients the ability to pay by cheque, bank transfer or by card. So for all of you who have not paid your subs (you know who you are!) next year you will receive an invoice with payment terms in line with the Articles of Association.

This change will also assist in identification of payments as there will be an invoice number reference against the payment.
