Welcome to the September issue

I hope you have all had a successful summer – we had the wettest and the hottest summer on record! How bizarre is that. Boat sales are reportedly fickle, thought in some degree to be due to the ‘Brexit effect’. The uncertainty of Brexit is causing concerns in our industry, just as it is in most others.

Click here to read the full intro, we cover VAT and RCD evidence, the ABYA & YDSA Academies, how to become a Committee Member and some personnel news.

YDSA UPDATES

Robert Elliott had a car accident in mid-September. He seems to have had enormous presence of mind to get out of the car, even with his injuries. Get well soon Robert! Click the logo for his stand-in report.
CERTIFYING AUTHORITY (CA) NEWS

In this issue we talk about doing our bit to reduce plastic use, the importance of the SCV1 form, slipping standards in coded boats and we welcome Charlie Rossiter as our new Technical Consultant.
CERTIFYING AUTHORITY CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

A party was held to celebrate the 25 years since the YDSA CA was first set up. Additional to that celebration both Neil Edden and Chris Temple, who were in at the very beginning, had both recently retired. Other Members who had been involved at the start, some of whom are now retired, were invited and it was wonderful to see them, as well as guests from the MCA and the CEO at the time – Rae Boxall.

Dawn, who was also in at the start, had unfortunately had an accident and broken her hip earlier in the week, so was unable to be with us, but our thanks go to her too. The first certificate ever issued was on display Bonaventure II – certificate number 0001!
