Introducing the new Student Counselling Service: EAPworks

AIS have recently commenced a new Student Counselling Service for 2014, operating from both the St Helens and Asquith campuses. Two accredited counsellors from EAPworks will be available onsite for an hour per week on both campuses to assess student needs and to provide counselling support services. The counsellors are qualified psychotherapists and are well trained to provide students with support services and guidance for managing personal, work or life issues.
The counselling sessions will be anonymous, strictly confidential and you can be assured that no information will be shared outside of the counselling sessions without the student’s permission. If you would like to meet with one of the counsellors, they will be available onsite every Thursday at the following times:
  • St Helens Campus:  12:00pm - 1:00pm
  • Asquith Campus:     1:15pm - 2:15pm

AIS Online

At AIS we’re dedicated to staying connected with our current, past and future students by using the most appropriate social media, and we’re doing our best to keep up. You may have noticed that we’ve had a large following on Facebook for a number of years now and that our online community keeps growing every day. Facebook is often seen as our main communication channel, but we’re also active on Twitter for quick updates, LinkedIn for Alumni, and Google+ for those of you more tech-savvy.
We’d like Linkedin to be our main communication channel for Alumni, including those students on a 12 months Graduate Job Search Visa, and with your help we’ll be able to grow this network and keep better track of student outcomes. Get online and register on Linkedin if you haven’t already!

AIS Offers Internships via Partnership with Intern NZ

Ismail Fasi Mohammed: PGDBA student at AIS and Owner of Paradise Indian Restaurant

Running a business while studying at the same time is definitely no easy feat! We catch up with current AIS PGDBA student and Paradise restaurant owner, Ismail Fasi Mohammed, on the advantages of studying for a PGDBA qualification while running his own business. He also describes how the PGDBA programme caters to real businesses and how it has helped further his knowledge of the New Zealand service industry.

AIS Gets a Makeover

We’ve undergone an extensive brand audit last year with the help of hundreds of internal and external stakeholders. This resulted in a complete overhaul of our image. We have emerged refreshed and rejuvenated; our new branding is crisp, clean, and contemporary. Most importantly, we are no longer known as AIS St Helens; instead we are now called Auckland Institute of Studies, or simply AIS.

Chinese New Year Celebration at AIS

The Chinese student association of AIS put on a very successful Lunar Year Festival function on 14 February in the student common room.
Many students and staff all worked together to make dumplings as others decorated the room around them with traditional Chinese decorations and balloons.
By 3pm that day everything had come together as planned and plenty more students and staff poured in to enjoy and share freshly made dumplings and other traditional snacks.
All the students had a very enjoyable time and welcomed the experience of life at AIS as a “big family”.
