Semester 2 2014
Dear <<First Name>>

Greetings from a cold and wintry Auckland. Although the weather outside hasn’t been the best, we have been busy on a number of different projects which may be of interest to you, including the formation of the AIS Student Council and ongoing work on our Graduate Outcomes Research project. Read on for some interesting information on where other AIS graduates are working now, along with two alumni profiles; can you see anyone you know?

Graduates Outcomes Research Project

Thanks for those of you who took the time to answer the Graduate Outcomes survey included in the last newsletter. Congratulations to Baskar Narayana who won an iPad Mini as part of the Graduate Outcomes Survey random prize draw! Baskar is a 2013 AIS PGDBA graduate who now works at the Localist, a New Zealand-based online digital advertising company, and manages accounts as a Digital Product Expert. If you weren’t able to do the survey last time, we would appreciate very much if you could take five minutes to complete it at this link: Complete the survey >>

Student Council Formed

The 9th of June 2014 marked the official founding of the AIS Student Council. The mission of the Council is to unite the various cultures represented at AIS by encouraging participation at small- and large-scale events.
Currently the council consists of 15 current students and alumni from each of the academic disciplines at AIS (MBA, International Business, IT, Tourism and Hospitality) and two students from the AIS dormitory. At the head of the council are Utsah Joshi (Executive Council President), Cliff Qu (Council Treasurer), Shoba Sonukumar (Council Executive Event Coordinator), and Aashish Negi (Executive Council Secretary).
The council has held a number of successful events at AIS already, including a series of FIFA World Cup get togethers, Bingo Night, and a free informational immigration seminar by Amicus Law.

Real World Success

Thanks again to those of you who filled in the Graduate Outcomes Survey in the last newsletter. From the data returned we see that our graduates work across a wide range of industries, with most working in Hospitality in hotels, restaurants and cafes across the city.
The second largest number of AIS graduates have found employment within the education sector, working as high school teacher-aids, or as lecturers at other private tertiary education providers, both here and overseas. The third largest group of graduates are working in sales and marketing.

Testimonial - Vivi Lu, Amicus Law

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of catching up with one of our graduates, Vivi Lu, to hear her story, and to see how she’s getting on after her studies at AIS. Vivi completed her Bachelor’s degree in International Business at AIS in May 2013 and currently works at Amicus Law, an Auckland-based law firm, as a legal executive with additional marketing responsibilities. We met at her office in the heart of the Auckland CBD.

AIS Graduates on top!

The AIS Graduate Outcomes analysis also identifies how many of our graduates assume management roles within various industries.
The largest number of our graduates assume managerial roles in retail, either as store managers or assistant managers, followed by those entering the tourism industry. As a result of opportunities arising in customer service industries the third largest number of graduates we have in the workforce are working in the telecommunications industry, and they have landed management level roles at Vodafone NZ, Telecom, 2 degrees amongst others.
The legacy of AIS continues to be transcribed every day, as our graduates utilise their skills and qualifications in the workforce. Best of luck guys!
