HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!

Thanks to support from neighbors and local businesses, Manhattan's Community Board 2 and tireless volunteers, Elizabeth Street Garden celebrates the first year open to the public through the Elizabeth Street gates.

Our community has embraced this rare oasis of green space in our otherwise park-deprived neighborhood. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.

Visit the Garden's By the Numbers website tab for impressive first-year accomplishments, and volunteer to help make the Garden's second year even more successful.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED JULY 4 HOLIDAY WEEK

For those of you who will be in New York City during the holiday, please consider volunteering for extra shifts to help keep the Garden open. A vital community green space, the Garden is a perfect place to take in a holiday weekend picnic.

Also, mark your calendar for our next Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, July 8, 7:00 p.m. — our first scheduled on a weekday evening. If you have not yet attended one, please come. And as always, spread the word to those you know who may want to get involved. RSVP to emily@elizabethstreetgarden.org so we know to look out for you!
LAWN RESTORATION AND SUMMER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION

Employees of local business 16 Handles joined Garden volunteers to break up compacted soil and restore the lawn on the Mott Street side of the Garden. Thank you to 16 Handles for offering their muscle and time (and, of course, for the coupons for free frozen yogurt) and our volunteers who worked side by side with them.

Thank you to William Kelley at The Village Alliance for donating and transporting the sod, which otherwise would have been discarded.
Summer Solstice Celebration
Summer began June 21, and neighbors and friends (and their dogs) met in the Garden throughout the weekend to enjoy our community's unique green, open space — learning about the importance of the soil food web; planting seeds and releasing worms; relaxing to live music; participating in wellness classes; sketching; and having a bit of canine fun, as we celebrated the "longest days" of the year.
We recognize the dedication and commitment of the following individuals and local businesses to the Garden and thank them for helping to make the Summer Solstice Celebration a success:

Terri Cude for bringing us Dog Day Afternoon and evaluating the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, and Happy Paws for generously donating prizes and treats.

Just Another Folk Singer and Jason Harrod for performing as part of Make Music New York and Justin Dean Thomas, with Brandon Collins and Dave Ross, for playing Music Sundays.

Mix Mobile's Joe Krachie and PJ Meyers for lending the Garden a PA system for the season.
