FINAL PUBLIC HEARING: THANK YOU!
Thanks to all of you who attended Thursday night’s Community Board 2 Full Board meeting. Our community came out in force, and this tremendous, unprecedented, standing-room-only turnout demonstrated deep and broad neighborhood support for the Garden. Attendees wore green; speakers made passionate, persuasive statements; and children held high their handmade signs.
Thanks also to those who could not attend yet supported the Garden by posting flyers, retweeting tweets and sharing our call to action through social media.

FINAL PUBLIC HEARING: GREAT NEWS!
Our community board voted overwhelmingly to pass the Land Use Committee’s strong resolution in favor of the Garden:
Therefore it is resolved that Community Board 2, Manhattan
- Supports the permanent preservation of the Elizabeth Street Garden in its entirety as a public open, green space and urges the City to transfer jurisdiction over this lot to the Parks Department;
- Supports the efforts of the Elizabeth Street Garden volunteers to form an independent non-profit group dedicated to improving the garden, guaranteeing open public access, and providing programing, community events, and opportunities for volunteers;
- Commits to an ongoing strategic and activist effort alongside our elected officials and government agencies to expand and preserve affordable housing in the district.

WHAT'S NEXT?
We’ll be sure to keep you informed as we work to form an independent non-profit organization and begin to work with the City administration to support our mission of preserving the Elizabeth Street Garden as a unique public green, open space that serves our entire community.
We still have a long way to go before a final victory, and this is a huge step. Let's keep up the momentum!
