INTRODUCING: Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden

We are proud to announce that Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden has been granted their nonprofit Certificate of Incorporation from New York State and are currently pursuing federal tax-exempt 501(c)3 status.

The founding board of directors comprises five voting members and one nonvoting ex officio member appointed by the chair of Manhattan’s Community Board 2. Voting members include Kent Barwick, Aaron Booher, Renee Green, Jeannine Kiely and Dan Rafalin.

Officers elected by the board include Chairman of the Board Kent Barwick, President Jeannine Kiely, Secretary Aaron Booher and Treasurer John Benscoter.

MOVIE TONIGHT: Buster Keaton in "The General" (1926) at 7:30 p.m.

For our fourth Movie Night of the season, Elizabeth Street Garden will remain open from noon through the evening. Come early, relax and if you plan to picnic, please plan to carry out all refuse and recyclables with you.
THIS WEEKEND: Third Annual LUNGS Harvest Arts Festival, Peoples' Climate March Events and Music Sundays

Workshop and Meet-Ups, as part of NYC Climate Convergence  Saturday, Sept. 20
In support of Sunday's historic People's Climate March, the Garden will host an art project constructing a huge ribbon that marchers will carry, as well as provide a location for specific groups to mobilize.
The Climate Ribbon: A Creative Ritual for Climate Justice 12:30 – 2 p.m.
Vegan Meet-Up — 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Yoga & Spirituality Meet-Up — 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Music Performances, as part of Third Annual LUNGS (Loisaida United Neighborhood Gardens) Harvest Arts Festival — Saturday, Sept. 20
The Garden is delighted to participate for the first time with this coalition of East Village and Lower East Side gardens in this annual weekend-long cultural festival.

People's Climate MarchSunday, Sept. 21, Columbus Circle, NYC.
Join with downtown community gardeners in this massive, history-making march in advance of UN Climate Summit 2014! Organizers anticipate that more than 100,000 people will participate, including many elected officials. Garden volunteers can join almost three dozen Lower Manhattan gardens to form a gardens contingent under the LUNGS banner. Make every effort to be part of this historic event. March with your family, friends and neighbors.

March Logistics: LUNGS are meeting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 on Central Park West, between 71st & 72nd St. The march begins at 11:30 a.m. We are marching in Section 3, as part of the Food & Water Justice contingent. Vandana Shiva, world-famous environmental activist and outspoken critic of genetically modified crops, will address our contingent before the march begins.

The NYPD will control access to the assembly area, so please enter Central Park West from 72nd St. or 77th St. For more info and updates, visit People's Climate March Logistics.

A ROOFTOP RECEPTION TO BENEFIT ELIZABETH STREET GARDEN

A Rooftop Reception Benefit — Tuesday, Sept. 23, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Our neighbor The Nolitan New York hotel has graciously offered to host the Garden's first fundraiser on their rooftop lounge!
