Please Write Mayor de Blasio to Save Our Garden

Write Mayor de Blasio and tell him that you oppose the City’s plan to issue a Request for Proposal to developers to build affordable housing that would destroy Elizabeth Street Garden:
  1. Write the mayor and forward this action to your neighbors and friends asking them to write a letter too.
  2. Share this tweet and Facebook post.
  3. Join the discussion on social media. Use #elizabethstreetgarden and #ESGSaveOurGarden.
Thanks to the hundreds of supporters who have already sent letters to the mayor!

Reading pieces with other members is encouraged but not required.

Live music, dancing, bubbles and fun with volunteers actress-singer Lauren Ruff and guitarist Pete Armstrong. We’ll provide music and percussion instruments for your little ones to sing, dance or play along. Bring the family and pack a picnic lunch for afterwards.

Highlights: Jane's Walk NYC, Composting Workshop & More

Jane's Walk Through Historic Chinatown

As part of The Municipal Art Society’s annual Jane’s Walk NYC, on May 7 Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden hosted a neighborhood walk through Chinatown with the Museum of Chinese in America. This year's walk explored how everyday buildings, public and commercial places, and streets have shaped the Chinatown community from its origins as a Native American village to one of the fastest growing immigrant communities of present day New York City.

Special thanks to MOCA for sharing this tour with our community. We look forward to working together again. Thanks to MOCA educator Alice Fung for leading the tour and to MOCA Public Programs Director Beatrice Chen and Garden volunteer Kristin Shea for coordinating.

Composting in the City Workshop

Thanks to the Lower East Side Ecology Center for hosting a composting workshop in the Garden on May 7, as part of the NYC Compost Project, a city-funded effort to reduce dependence on landfills. The Ecology Center's Renee Crowley and Lia Lucero showed how easy it is to turn kitchen scraps into garden soil.

Thanks to Garden volunteer Jamie Jensen for organizing the workshop.
