Saturday: Help Prepare the Garden for Winter
Spend a fall morning outdoors with neighbors and help prepare the Garden for winter. Following coffee and bagels, we will rake leaves, plant spring-flowering bulbs and mulch. No experience necessary. Both adults and kids are welcome.
Fall Cleanup & Daffodil Bulb Planting,
as part of New Yorkers for Parks Daffodil Project —
Saturday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The Daffodil Project was founded in 2001 as a living memorial to Sept. 11. With nearly 5 million free bulbs planted citywide by New Yorkers, it is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the city’s history.

Dec 2: Community Board 2 Parks & Land Use Committees Joint Meeting
Manhattan Community Board 2 hosts a joint meeting of its Parks and Land Use committees to discuss the use of the three water tunnel shaft sites in the district:
- Hudson Street site, an alternative location within CB 2 where affordable housing can be built without destroying Elizabeth Street Garden;
- Grand and Lafayette streets site, where there is the opportunity for much needed open space and, due to the limitations of the shaft site, could not be a replacement for the Garden; and
- East Fourth Street site, adjacent to the Merchant’s House Museum.
We encourage Elizabeth Street Garden supporters to attend and speak in support of building affordable housing on the Hudson Street site.
CB 2 Parks and Land Use Committees Joint Meeting —
Wednesday, Dec. 2, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
(Meeting location to be announced)
Please also bring ideas for open space uses for the other water tunnel shaft sites and, if you know anyone who lives near them — at the corner of Grand and Lafayette streets or on the Merchant's House Museum block — or others who may be interested, please let them know about this hearing.
