HAPPY NEW YEAR

As we welcome the New Year, we wish you the very best in 2014 and thank you for visiting and helping to preserve the Elizabeth Street Garden as a unique public green, open space. We could not have come this far without the time, energy and dedication of all of our volunteers and supporters. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

FINAL PUBLIC HEARING: JANUARY 23RD

We still need your support.
Please plan to attend the next Full-Board Meeting of Community Board 2:

Thursday, January 23rd, 6:00 p.m.
Scholastic Auditorium, 557 Broadway

We expect the Board to pass a resolution following last November's well-attended Land Use Committee hearing, at which the Garden Committee presented its support for preserving public green, open space. Community Board 2 and our elected officials need to know this is a priority for our community, so please plan to attend, and bring a friend or two. Bodies count!

WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED TOGETHER

As we look forward to an exciting new year at the Garden, let’s take a moment to look back at some achievements of the past year:

The Garden is now open to the public daily and staffed by volunteers three days a week.

We organized more than 160 supporters for the November Community Board 2 Land Use Committee hearing.

We successfully programmed numerous movie nights, poetry readings, children's story and craft events and the Garden's first annual Harvest Festival, attended by 1,500 neighbors and visitors. The Garden is beautifully decorated for the season, and during our Winter Gathering, everyone enjoyed holiday cheer, live music and hot beverages.

We engaged the local business community, which has come forward to invest in the Garden both financially and with "sweat equity."

We launched the elizabethstreetgarden.org website and have an active social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. (Like and follow us, please.) Additionally, nearly 1,200 of you are receiving our emails. (Thanks.)

On the gardening front, we weeded planting beds, cleaned up street trees and planted more than 2,000 daffodil bulbs that will brighten the Garden this Spring. Arborists pruned the mature flowering pear trees and repaired previous storm damage. Planning is underway for the new year, including restoration of the lawn. Get ready for significant transformation!
