July is International Picnic Month

A book of verse beneath the bough,
A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness –
Ah, wilderness were paradise enow!

Omar Khayyam

There's a bit of a 'school trip' atmosphere to the Kingston Expo, (more pics) you get to meet up with friends and acquaintances, have a chat and a coffee, and not work! Except it is work, of course. The event was held at the Kingston Business School, with dozens of exhibitors, useful talks, speed networking and an address from local MP Sir Ed Davey. Sorry about the picture Ed, I couldn't resist, how's the race for the Lib-Dem party leadership going?
Hawks Road Artists in Kingston had an open studio weekend. Among the 25 artists were Yulia Robinson, left and Anastasia Jankovic.  There is so much great art being produced by amateur artists, I love an open studio!.

Illuminate - a Space with a View

This is the Association of British Science Writers annual awards ceremony at Illuminate, a new event space on top of the Science Museum in London. It's spacious and airy, and has a great view into central London. More.=

The Asset Strippers

This is a capstan lathe. They were a mainstay of engineering and manufacturing, I spent 4 years at University learning to build production processes which would often include them. Now it's a museum piece. Not sure what that makes me.
It's a part of The Asset Strippers, a major new installation by Mike Nelson at Tate Britain, very evocative of the industry that I knew decades ago.

Moon Landing Photos Released to Mark 50th Anniversary

Nice article here about the Hasselblad cameras that went to the moon on Appollo 11, and some of the pictures the astronauts took.
