News at HealthWest
Welcome to November's edition of the HealthWest Update.

In October we were informed that the Department of Health & Human Services has commissioned KPMG to undertake a review of the Primary Care Partnership (PCP) program. The review will analyse the current functions and outcomes of the PCP Program and determine the functions that are relevant in a changing service landscape. HealthWest has expressed interest in being a case-study site and should hear very soon if we have been accepted. Case-study sites will be explored in more depth during a one-day site visit and will include document review and staff and partner interviews.

Workforce Mutuality at the FECCA Conference

HealthWest presented the Standards for Workforce Mutuality at the FECCA conference, including an oral presentation reporting on the 2018 pilot and a poster presentation with Cultural Infusion highlighting the importance of collecting and using staff diversity data to drive change and monitor progress. The Standards attracted interest from a diverse range of sectors, relating well to emerging conversations at the conference around intersectionality and leadership.

Update on the Evaluation Capacity Health Check workshop

On 24 October, HealthWest, along with Women’s Health West and Inner North West PCP, brought together primary prevention partners to talk all things evaluation capacity. We looked at what evaluation capacity looks like now for primary prevention, and what we’d like it to look like in 2025. We then tested and further developed a tool to check evaluation capacity.
Thanks to our facilitators, Judy Gold and Emma Thomas, for leading us through a fun and engaging workshop.

A climate of fairness: Making Victoria’s climate change transition fair and equitable

Climate change demands an urgent, comprehensive and coordinated response. A truly equitable response to climate change puts the people, communities and organisations that are being hardest hit by global warming at the forefront of decision-making, planning and delivery—and funds them accordingly. It prioritises support to those individuals and groups who need the most assistance to adapt to the changing climate. This VCOSS report adopts a ‘climate equity’ approach to determine the practical measures Victoria should take to respond to climate change fairly.

2020 national conference: The Australian loneliness dialogue

So much of our dialogue and learning is city centric. We gather together in places far from rural communities. This can limit our understanding of the challenges that are faced in relation to social isolation and loneliness outside of cities, or the great solutions that may have been found to overcome these problems. We are planning to explore new ways of knowing and thinking in this space.
Although the conference will have a particular focus on rural and regional perspectives, there will also be an opportunity to present research, workshops or other presentations about loneliness more broadly

Theme: Exploring the rural experience
Conference dates: Thursday 2 - Friday 3 April 2020
Where: Horsham, VIC
