Over the last few months we have reshaped our learning and community engagement programme in response to the COVID 19 crisis. We are delighted to be able to share with you our online learning programme and information about an exciting new initiative: free art packs for families. Through our online creative courses we are continuing to engage with our followers by bringing high quality teaching to your living room. Our Family Fun team are regularly adding to a series of online activities so that families can continue to play, make and learn together at home. We recognise that not everyone has access to the digital world so we are delivering free art packs full of inspiring materials to local families via community food hubs. We are also offering free places on our courses to local residents so that the ticket price is not a barrier for people who want to take part in our programme.
At Phoenix Art Space we will continue to rethink and adapt what we do, turning challenges into opportunities. If you love what we do, we ask you to continue supporting our organisation in order to safeguard its future. You can do that by either Becoming a Friend or Making a Donation. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back into our building when we can, until then stay safe and stay in touch.

We spoke with studio artist Ottilie Hainsworth about her upcoming online Graphic Novels course...

What can students expect from your Graphic Novels online course?
I hope that students can see it as an opportunity to connect with others who are also interested in developing skills for visual story telling. I will guide the students through weekly drawing and writing exercises towards producing a collection of sequential short stories in relaxed and fun classes.

What will be the inspiration for those taking part?
We'll be getting inspired by a variety of amazing graphic novels, as well as by re-examining everyday things and memories of your own.

What do you think is the benefit of keeping a daily/weekly sketchbook?
More than ever during the strange times we find ourselves in, keeping a visual diary or sketchbook  is a great way to keep track of your experiences, and of processing them. In the course I'll be encouraging students to develop or maintain a regular art practice which can be a source of discovery for them!

Hear about our art packs for local families...
Our Family Fun team, who host monthly creative workshops at Phoenix, have put together free art packs for neighbouring families in the Hanover & Elm Grove areas. They are filled with everything a family needs to take part in creative activities at home, and were delivered last week via local community centre food hubs.
Did you get an art pack? Send us a picture of your creations using the hashtag #PhoenixFamilyFunAtHome
Many thanks to Hanover & Elm Grove Communities Forum, Phoenix Community Association, Pankhurst Community Association, Trust for Developing Communities and Hyde Group for their support.
