DnA have been very excited to be working closely with Crisis over the last few months; delivering a series of group workshops and 1 to 1 sessions designed to help homeless service users develop computer and literacy skills, all using free/ open-source tools. Our wonderful trainers Michael, Tim and Jonathan have been familiarising trainees with cloud based word processing using google documents, alongside free plugins to support dictation (speech-to-text), and proofreading, (text-to-speech).  They’ve also been helping trainees to access similar tools that they may not have known were already built into their phones. The feedback has been really positive, (our personal favourite - "A great eye-opener to build personal potential and confidence"), and with the help and guidance of the trainees, we’re already working on the next series of workshops!

Workshops!

We're looking forward to running a selection of workshops at the upcoming ADSHE (Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education), PATOSS (Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Differences) and NADP (National Association of Disability Practitioners) conferences! Hope to see some of you there, otherwise, if you want a slice of the action, do get in touch! You can take a peek at some of the CPD workshops we have on offer here!

DnA's Top-Tip

Google Docs

This month we propose giving Google Docs a whirl! A free cloud-based word processing tool that works on and offline! It allows easy collaboration and works intuitively, offering many features akin to Microsoft Word, but with many added bonuses. Find out more in the guide written by our very own Michael Woodman!
