Subgroup on Innovation: EIP-AGRI priorities, OGs, H2020 and more

In June, the Subgroup on Innovation for agricultural productivity and sustainability met for the fifth time. They discussed: the launch of the new Focus Groups, EIP-AGRI priorities for 2017, feedback from the Operational Group workshop and possible synergies between EIP-AGRI activities and Horizon 2020. Preserving soil organic matter and protecting water sources

Nuno Marques, a Portuguese farmer, has developed a land and soil management strategy for Mediterranean conditions. It is based on finding the best combination of farm economic viability and maintaining healthy soils, preserving soil organic matter and reducing sediment in water to fight against flooding. Dealing with water scarcity

When water is scarce, irrigation scheduling and irrigation efficiency are especially important. New, innovative ways of obtaining real time feedback on irrigation management are currently being developed. These include digitally connected fruit measuring tools which extract “feedback directly from the fruit on how the production is going.” Find out the benefits here.

Farmer and forester management exchange

Farming Connect, which delivers the knowledge transfer, innovation and advisory services of the RDP in Wales, UK is currently developing a new Management Exchange programme for farmers and foresters in Wales and across Europe. It will enable farmers and foresters to enhance their personal learning through exchange of knowledge with others. Find out more.

Promoting EIP-AGRI on national level in France

The French National Rural Network will hold an event on 30 June to promote EIP-AGRI on national level. Its focus is “Accelerating the transition towards more productive and sustainable agriculture and forestry models” and participants will find out what is happening in France regarding Operational Groups and H2020. Thematic network to improve water management in fertigated crops

FERTINNOWA is a thematic network funded under Horizon 2020 dealing with innovative water management in fertigated crops (nutrients added to irrigation water). FERTINNOWA aims to improve water quality, improve water use efficiency and reduce environmental impact by collecting existing best practice, methods and technologies and make it readily available to all. EIP-AGRI Evaluation - tell us what you think

The European Commission (DG AGRI) has commissioned a team of independent evaluators to find out about the awareness of EIP-AGRI network, the needs of its members, its benefits and ideas for improvement. Please fill in this survey (available in different languages), it will help deliver a better EIP.

32nd International Film Festival AGROFILM

Have you made a documentary dealing with agriculture or rural development, showing innovative solutions or research put into practice? Then you may wish to submit it to the international Agrofilm festival to be held in Slovakia in October 2016. Deadline for applications 30 June 2016. Find out more.

Agroecology in food and farming systems

Agroecology Europe is an association bringing together people from throughout the food chain, working towards promoting agroecology for the sustainable development of farming and food systems. It will support agroecological research, education and training and share and disseminate agroecological knowledge. Find out more.

Horizon 2020 info week

Don’t forget that the Info Week for Horizon 2020’s Societal Challenge 2 for the 2017 calls will take place on 27-29 June 2016. Registration for the event is now closed, however you can watch all sessions via web-streaming. Updated Horizon 2020 calls will be announced mid-July. More information.

Prizes for protecting pollinators

The European Bee Award rewards Farmers, landowners, research institutes, academia and private and public organisations who develop outstanding and innovative projects to protect bees and other pollinators in the farmed environment. This year there is a focus on new technologies. Apply before 8 July.
