Aquaculture + hydroponics = aquaponics

Aquaponics combines aquaculture (production of fish in tanks) and hydroponics (growing plants in a soilless medium). Coupling the two systems means that water, nutrients and CO2 are all used in a cycle. The project INAPRO is working on this new technique to improve conditions for the fish and the plants. Herbivorous Project

A group of farmers, a university and an advisory centre in Latvia are working to increase knowledge exchange in the livestock sector between farmers and scientists. ‘Herbivorous project’ aims to promote cost-effective farming, improve quality and volume of output and competitiveness, without forgetting animal welfare, environmental protection and sustainability. Farm benchmarking data to improve productivity and sustainability

A new EIP-AGRI Focus Group report has just been published. ERANET calls for collaborative research projects

A number of ERANET calls for collaborative research projects have just been launched, including: CORE Organic (sustainable growth of the organic sector), ERA CoBioTech (biotechnologies), SUSFOOD2 (sustainable food production and consumption), FACCE SURPLUS (sustainable intensification of biomass production; see also useful partnering tool), and other agricultural, forestry and food issues. Smart-AKIS is a Horizon 2020 thematic network which aims to increase the adoption of Smart Farming Technologies (applying ICT in agriculture) by the European farming community.
