Drew Dads,
We wanted to provide you with the new process Drew has put in place for parent volunteers. If you plan to volunteer at the school in any capacity we encourage you to start this process as soon as possible.
Below is an email the school sent to parents explaining the process. Realizing that some dads may not have seen this we wanted to get it into your hands ASAP. Please direct questions about the clearance process to the contact provided in the message below.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Drew Charter School is excited to have parents, guardians, and families return as volunteers. As we look to have you engage with us as volunteers, we want to share important information regarding getting started as a volunteer. All requests to volunteer from parents/guardians should be sent to
Sherrie Charles, our Culture, Equity, and Family Liaison, at
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org.
All volunteers are expected to undergo a background check. Please note that we cannot accept external background checks and ask that all volunteers complete our process outlined below for clearance. If you have completed the volunteer process and background check with Drew previously, please get in touch with
Sherrie Charles to confirm your current status.
The level of clearance needed depends upon the volunteer's location. The process volunteers can anticipate is as follows:
LEVEL 2 Clearance—Classroom and Onsite School Volunteers Only
• Step 1—Contact
Sherrie Charles via email at
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org. to request the
Request to Volunteer form.
• Step 2—Return the completed form and a scanned copy of your unexpired ID (Driver’s License - front and back, State-issued ID, Passport, or Resident Alien Card) via email to
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org. Please be mindful that this is for Level 2 clearance only, allowing parents to volunteer within classrooms or at the school for larger events. However, please be aware that all volunteers out of classrooms should be in the presence of Drew staff at all times.
• Step 3—Once the form is received via email, an email acknowledgment will be sent to the parent seeking to volunteer. All documents received by no later than 5 pm on Mondays will be processed on Tuesdays of each week. Any forms received on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be processed on Thursdays of each week.
• Step 4— PLEASE NOTE: Notifications of clearance will be shared with teachers seeking volunteers and the volunteers via email on Wednesdays and Mondays based on volunteer form submissions. Those who complete processing on Tuesdays will be notified of their clearance status by Wednesday, and those processed on Thursdays will be notified by the following Monday of their clearance status.
• Step 5—Once cleared, all volunteers must complete either onsite COVID testing or provide a copy of a negative COVID test within 24 hours of the volunteer date.
LEVEL 3 Clearance—Field Trips and Offsite School Volunteers Only
• Step 1—Contact
Sherrie Charles via email at
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org. to request the volunteer form. Additionally, volunteers seeking Level 3 clearance will also need to complete the Volunteer Packet, which includes the submission of the receipt of payment for fingerprinting ($47.50).
• For any volunteer needing financial assistance for the fingerprinting fees, email
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org.
• PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PACKET MUST BE COMPLETELY FILLED OUT. ANY INCOMPLETE SECTION MAY RESULT IN A DELAY IN PROCESSING.
• Step 2—Return a scanned copy of your unexpired ID (Driver’s License - front and back, State-issued ID, Passport, or Resident Alien Card) along with ALL completed forms from the packet via email to
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org. This step is for Level 3 clearance, which allows parents to volunteer not only on the school level but also for field trips, tutoring, national service members, or outside of the school for school-related activities, programs, or events. Although Level 3 volunteers are allowed to engage with unsupervised students, it may still be helpful to ensure that a member of the Drew staff knows your volunteer location.
• Step 3—Once the completed packet is received, an email acknowledgment will be sent to the parent seeking to volunteer from Sherrie Charles. Within five business days of receiving the packet, DREW HR will notify the volunteer via email, indicating that they have been approved to complete their fingerprinting. If you have questions or concerns regarding your submitted packet or clearance status, please only contact
Sherrie Charles,
drewvolunteers@drewcharterschool.org.
• Step 4—After all forms are processed, and background checks are completed, notifications of clearance will be shared with both teachers seeking volunteers and the volunteers via email from
Sherrie Charles.
• Step 5—All cleared volunteers will be required to complete either onsite COVID testing or provide a copy of a negative COVID test within 24 hours of the volunteer date (at-home test kits will not be accepted).
