The temperatures outside might not feel like it quite yet, but fall has arrived and that means we are in full swing at Any Given Child Sarasota bringing the arts and arts-integrated instruction to life for students and teachers in Sarasota County Schools.
In this month's e-news, we'll share highlights from our kickoff event for Project Elevate; introduce you to a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist who is transforming the way students learn math and science through the arts; and bring you news about upcoming performances that our partners at Sarasota Ballet are making possible for area 3rd graders.
In addition to reviewing the grant components, participants also engaged in a number of interactive strategies led by our new arts integration specialist, Jessica DiLorenzo, designed to familiarize them with arts-integrated instruction and how it impacts student learning outcomes.
Kennedy Center Teaching Artist Marcia Daft will be our special guest on November 4-5, as Any Given Child Sarasota and The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall launch season two of our successful Arts Integration League (AIL) series of professional development workshops for Sarasota K-12 teachers.
Daft is a professional musician and nationally-known arts educator whose workshops on using music and movement to engage students in math and science have earned widespread acclaim.
A big thank you to our partners at Sarasota Ballet for offering an incredible opportunity for area 3rd graders to experience the arts this October 20-22. As you will recall, last year the ballet welcomed 3rd graders from throughout the school district to special performances of their acclaimed original production of The Secret Garden. This year, they are opening their doors once again with special performances of their 25th Anniversary showcase, The Best of Theatre of Dreams!
Thanks to the ballet's generosity, nearly 2,000 area 3rd graders will thrill to the choreography and artistry of the ballet's premier performers while also enjoying special lesson plans prepared for their teachers by ballet staff and members of the Sarasota School District.
Through grants like Project Elevate, professional development programs like the Arts Integration League and community partnerships like those highlighted in this newsletter, Any Given Child Sarasota is helping realize the dream established by members of our local community five years ago to develop and build high-quality arts education programs and instruction in our local schools.
