As we count down into the New Year we are very proud to look back at the work we have accomplished. Our success is a collective success among teachers, students, administrators, and community partners. Take a look at a year in review of arts integration in Sarasota County Schools here. Thank you for ensuring the arts for Any Given Child. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!

Arts In Education Conference

Sarasota County Schools sent a delegation to participate and present at the U.S. Department of Education's Arts in Education Conference, held Nov. 16-17 in Arlington, Va. Any Given Child Program Director Brian Hersh, Arts Integration Manager Maria Schaedler-Luera and Arts Integration Specialist Jessica DiLorenzo, in collaboration with Project Elevate evaluators from the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee.

The presentation, “Slicing the PIE Is No Piece of Cake: An Arts Integrated Experience of Planning, Implementing and Evaluating a Grant,” used drama and movement to explore the cyclical nature and creative process of our professional development Project Elevate, a Professional Development for Arts Educators grant from the US. Department of Education.

Poetry off the Page

Glenis Redmond, award-winning performance poet, educator and writer, visited Sarasota County Schools late November to teach a workshop that focused on ways to help students use brainstorming, imagery, and layering to write powerful and effective poems. Poetry off the Page was offered in partnership with The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. While in Sarasota, Glenis was in residency at Wilkinson Elementary and Booker Middle Schools. Following the concept that "poetry is visual art" students had a chance to explore and expand their imaginations while creating their own poetry.
