The school year may have ended, but there is still plenty going at Any Given Child Sarasota this summer. So take a break from the heat and catch up on some of our latest news...
AIL Workshops Spark Imagination & Ideas
Dozens of Sarasota County teachers attended our 3rd Annual Arts Integration League Summer Workshops held at the Venice Performing Arts Center on June 14-16, helping make this year's event our biggest and best ever. Planned and produced in collaboration by Any Given Child Sarasota and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, this year's series featured Kennedy Center Teaching Artist Rosalind Flynn and a special performance by Sarasota Contemporary Dance. Included as well was a broad range of sessions designed to engage teachers in the latest strategies and tools related to the use of arts integration in their classrooms.
Also in June, a delegation from Sarasota County Schools attended the Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) Leadership Summit, which each year brings together the state's foremost leaders in arts education. This year's event was extra special, as the FAAE saluted Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Lori White as their 2016 State Superintendent of the Year. The FAAE cited White's tireless efforts to promote and maintain outstanding arts programs in local schools, as well as the strong relationships she has fostered with community arts organizations through programs like Any Given Child Sarasota, as key components in helping place Sarasota County among the state's leaders in quality arts education for ALL students.
Congratulations Superintendent White on this well-deserved recognition!
Reflections on a Great Year in 2015-2016...
The 2015-2016 school year was an incredible success for Any Given Child Sarasota, as we continued to open new windows on the world for students and teachers through the arts and arts integration.
Take a look at some of the opportunities for arts experiences and arts-integrated learning that we helped foster this past year:
Through Any Given Child Sarasota's Project Elevate, made possible by a grant from the US Department of Education, hundreds of students at four Title I elementary schools in Sarasota County engaged in arts-integrated instruction to help them explore reading, writing, math and science through drama, dance and the visual arts.
Through our partnerships with local arts and cultural organizations, thousands of area students were able to attend exhibits and performances they might otherwise not have had a chance to experience.
Through Any Given Child's Arts Integration League partnership with Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, hundreds of area teachers attended workshops with local and national experts to learn about the latest strategies and effective implementation of arts-integrated instruction in their classrooms.
Yet, while we celebrate the successes of the past year, we look forward to an even better one in 2016-2017. Here is some of what you can expect from Any Given Child Sarasota during the upcoming school year:
Development of our Project Elevate grant program to include 16 new teachers and classrooms at Atwater, Brentwood, Emma E. Booker and Tuttle elementary schools.
Expansion of our Arts Integration League workshops to include even more professional development opportunities for teachers, as well as new programming aimed at arts-integrated instruction for students with disabilities.
Increased opportunities for students from throughout Sarasota County to participate in arts experiences both at their schools and through our expanding partnerships with local arts and cultural organizations.
Continuation of our efforts to raise awareness about the importance and value of the arts and arts-integrated instruction for ALL students in Sarasota County schools.
