Florida NYI Family,
Your Florida NYI Council was optimistic that 2021 would be able to start off well as we regathered for one of our favorite events. We recognize that Extreme Days is a milestone that many look forward to each year for many reasons. It is one of the reasons that our council made sure to try and salvage this event when we were unable to host it in November. However, after meeting and conversing in various ways over the past few weeks, we’ve come to an incredibly tough decision.
Extreme Days 2020, which was originally scheduled for November 2020 and subsequently pushed until January 30, 2021 has been officially cancelled.
We know that many students have worked hard on their performances, writings, speeches and artwork. Others have trained and honed their skills to be able to have a chance at a spot on a Florida District All Star Team. We are thankful for you and proud of you.
What we have noticed is that there are still many churches and families that are uncomfortable, at this time, gathering for an event like Extreme Days. Whether it is wanting to remain physically distant or the uncertainty of the apex event of TNT at Trevecca Nazarene University, there is a clear message being sent to us at Florida NYI. Extreme Days is a unique event. Our usual registrations come in at two hundred with more than 160 participants. As of the deadline for registration (January 6, 2021) there were less than 70 registered and only 61 participants. The truth is that we cannot execute an exceptional event like Extreme Days for various reasons.
With that all said, if there is an event hosted at Trevecca Nazarene University this spring, all qualifiers from the 2019 Extreme Days will be automatically qualified for TNT. After those students are signed up, we will then take all who wish to participate.
The Florida NYI Council, though, recognizes that we have been going about all of this wrong. We’ve continued to try and live in the normal routines wishing that we could do what we’ve always done. This has been a foolish plan. This is why we’re trying something new.
Mark your calendars for February 27, 2021. We’ll be hosting our first ever one day mini camp. With full scale worship and teaching, fun activities, and a mission outreach to top it off, your group won’t want to miss it. Best of all? It’s free. Registration information will be up later this week.
And then in March, we are working with our friends at Universal Studios Orlando Resort to offer an NYI sponsored day at their main two theme parks, so keep an eye out for that.
We are thankful for you and pray for you often. We want to be a resource to local churches all across this great district. If you have any questions, please reach out via email at email@example.com or call Pastor Joey at 614-783-9828.
