Hello Adriaan and welcome to this special Christmas edition of my new jazzy newsletter!

As you know I am passionate about wildlife, travel and landscape photography and about sharing my passion with fellow enthusiasts through my pictures, workshops, blog etc. Since starting to do photography full time in July this year it has been all hands to the pump in getting my website sorted, building relationships with key collaborators and organisations, and letting interested people know what I'm up to.

I am very excited about having made arrangements with Surrey Wildlife Trust, London Wildlife Trust and London Wetland Centre to run photography workshops on their reserves. I am also teaming up with Denbies Wine Estate to provide photography experience days on the Estate; these will be absolutely brilliant events as there is a lot of wildlife on the Estate (in addition to the lovely scenery and of course the prize-winning wines!).

This newsletter is an important part of keeping you up to date with my various activities as well as letting you know about free stuff and special offers. I'm hoping to send out about one newsletter every month but it could be more frequently depending on whether amazing things are happening at the time and if there are key booking deadlines approaching.

2014 has turned out to be a very eventful year with success in eight international competitions, three exhibitions, two art fairs and one Artist in Residence award! I'm very excited about the prospect of visiting Kyoto in April next year (as one of four Artists in Residence at the Jarfo Gallery): I've never been to Asia so it's going to be an exciting challenge to capture the land of Hokusai and Moriyama in some evocative images. You can read all the details on my website.

Travel in 2014 has been centred around locations in the UK, with wonderful trips to Northumberland, the Peak District, Anglesey (North Wales) and the Gower Peninsula (South Wales). You can see some of the pictures from these trips in the new PHOTOS section on my website. Closer to home I have really enjoyed photographing the red deer rut in Richmond Park this year and will shortly be writing an article on the rut for a European nature magazine. I had a great first red deer workshop on 16 November for which I was joined by Heather Buckley (2013 RHS Photographer of the Year).

I will be exhibiting at the Barcelona International Art Fair on 12 & 13 December so do come along and say hello if you're in the area. The art fair is a showcase of modern and contemporary art in the beautiful setting of the city’s famous "Casa Batlló" by Gaudi! If you are a collector and would like to apply for a VIP ticket then hurry as there are only a few left. I have one spare VIP ticket so please let me know ASAP if you'd be interested to join me. You can view the entire exhibition catalogue online and read the official press release; links are on my website.

At this time of year you may be forgiven for feeling like a reindeer caught in Santa's headlights, so here are seven ways to take some of the stress out of the most frenetic holiday season while adding some buzz and beauty to your life this Christmas:
  1. Beautiful Christmas cards. In addition to my regular art cards I have two Christmas cards to choose from. Only £10 for a pack of 5, with free UK shipping.
  2. Four 2015 calendar designs to choose from. Three versions are available from my website for only £8 each with free UK shipping: "Landscapes of England and Wales", "Nowhere Like Northumberland", and "Funny Bones". These are all A4 (210 x 297 mm; 8.3 x 11.7 in) size wall calendars in portrait format. My "Wildlife Around The World" calendar was published by Calvendo Verlag and is available on Amazon; this is a beautiful A3 (297 x 420 mm; 11.7 x 16.5 in) size landscape format calendar featuring animals from Africa, Cuba and the UK. Calendars make great presents as people will be thinking of you all year round when they admire the beautiful pictures.
  3. Lots of beautiful signed limited edition prints to choose from (starting at only £95). A limited edition print makes a lovely gift and beats a knitted jumper of Rudolph hooves down every time! If you don't see anything you like in the Shop you can also have a look at the lovely new PHOTOS section on my website; I'm constantly adding new pictures so there's plenty to explore and most of the pictures are available as limited edition prints. Of course I only work with the best printers and framers so you can be assured of the best quality products, and if you're not entirely happy with your purchase you can always return it within 30 days for a full refund (the usual T&Cs apply).
  4. There are still copies available of my Wild Beauty photobook. This stunning large format (A3 size), beautifully produced, signed, limited edition coffee table book featuring wildlife and landscapes of Kenya and South Africa is a snip at only £245 and also comes with free UK shipping. The book contains 90 pages with 60 stunning photographs, including close-up portraits of animals and pictures of animals in their wider environments, as well as photographs showing the range of landscapes on offer in these two African countries. In his Foreword to the book, David Noton (one of the top landscape photographers in the world) writes that: "Images with such impact and resonance do not come about by accident, they are the product of a unique vision coupled with resolute commitment, sound technique, bucket loads of persistence and fierce determination. Clearly Adriaan has exceptional reserves of all of these qualities." The copies of the book that have sold so far have all been purchased as gifts for special occasions (anniversaries, graduations, etc.), so why not treat your special someone to something really amazing this Christmas?
  5. On my blog you will find some useful information about how to make the most of your trip of a lifetime, advice on photographic equipment purchases and tips and tricks to help you improve your own photography. You deserve a treat too this Christmas, so why not unleash your creativity through the wonderful medium of photography? I promise you'll feel better for it!
  6. Download my new FREE eBook UK Landscape Photography: 5 Favourite Places from my online Shop. Just select "Free Checkout" at the Checkout. Nothing like a bit of inspiration to start planning your special holiday for next year to get you through those endless rounds of mulled wine and mince pies!
  7. Plenty of opportunities to join me on some great photographic adventures in 2015. I look forward to welcoming you at one of my photography workshops or weekends and helping you to take better, more beautiful pictures. I have some exciting short photography holidays lined up to the Jurassic Coast (20-22 March) and the Lake District (25-28 September). Booking is now open for the Jurassic Coast weekend in March and I will be posting an update on the Lake District long weekend in the next newsletter. I am very excited that my friend and fellow photographer Ingrid Weel will be helping me run the Lake District weekend; we did a joint exhibition at Denbies Wine Estate with our fellow artist Diana Tapping in July and those of you who visited the exhibition will have admired Ingrid's pictures of Buttermere. I have now teamed up with Peter Goodwin from Travel Counsellors Ltd (a doubly-bonded company) for my photography weekends and holidays, which means that your money is fully protected in the unlikely event of anything going wrong. You can also keep an eye on my photography workshops and weekends page for the current schedule of half day and full day workshops: my next deer photography workshop at Richmond Park will be on the 4th of January, so book now if you'd like to come along to learn how to photograph these majestic animals. For landscape photography enthusiasts I'll be running a full day workshop at Dungeness on 18 January. Numbers on all the workshops and weekends are very limited so early booking is highly recommended.

Time limited special offer: Book on my Jurassic Coast photography weekend by 16 December and receive £50 off the total cost of £600; just quote "BIG-50" at the checkout to take advantage of the offer.

I would love to hear from you so please stop by my website, have a browse and leave a comment or two. You can even play my new "Are you a human?" game — an amusing little test which has so far successfully managed to outwit the spambots! Of course you can always also send me an email or contact me on social media (links below).

I recently received a lovely testimonial from Kathryn Roberts, Founder of the Cork Street Open Exhibition and Your Art Image:

"Adriaan’s photography is far more than a visual experience. When looking at his African photographs in particular I am transported; I can’t help but feel the oppressive heat, my throat becomes dry from the dust filled air, and the power and energy of Africa’s wildlife is inescapable. His cool, tranquil seascapes are the perfect counterpoint, providing visual holidays where one can practically smell the salt filled air and feel the cool ocean mist against one’s skin. As with the best fine art, Adriaan’s imagery takes one on an emotional, as well as visual journey."

Until next time!
