As you know I don't send out newsletters in rapid succession, but last night something very special happened.
In my newsletter of last week I mentioned that one of my Kyoto pictures ("Ode to Mortality") had been shortlisted for the ArtGemini Prize 2015 (a major international art competition) and that the winners of the various categories would be announced at the private view of the finalists' exhibition at the Menier Gallery in London last night.
Well, the big news is that MY NAME WAS CALLED WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED THE FIRST PRIZE FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY!!
I'm not usually an uppercase, double exclamation kind of guy, but I hope you'll forgive me this time.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the lovely judges Zoe Whishaw and Vanessa Champion, and to Jimmy Lek for organising the whole thing including the wonderful private view last night.
Thanks to those of you who braved the elements to share the moment with me.
The finalists' exhibition is on until this Saturday afternoon, so if you're in the Waterloo area do please pop in — there are some fantastic pieces on show, including works by my friends Fiona Roberts and Annamarie Dzendrowskyj (Annamarie won second prize in the painting category).
