I can't believe it's been nine months since my last newsletter! I regret to say that most of the blame for this delay can be laid squarely at the cute little feet of Miss Sylvie van Heerden (below) who has been keeping us rather busy in the last 11 months; but then she is rather adorable so we tend to forgive her quite quickly.
I'm very pleased to say that I have been shortlisted again in the Photography category of the ArtGemini International Art Competition, this time with "Snowdrop in Melting Frost" (pictured at the top of the newsletter).
The judging panel included Pamela Kember, Sajid Rizvi, Estelle Lovatt, Isabel H Langtry and Thorsten Overgaard. They had the difficult task of selecting the 44 finalists from an amazing 941 entries from 34 countries. I'm really pleased that my friend Annamarie Dzendrowskyi has been shortlisted (again) in the Painting category.
The Finalists' Exhibition will be on display at the Asia House Gallery, 63 New Cavendish Street, London W1G 7LP, from tomorrow (22nd) until the 30th September. Admission is free and the public opening hours are 10am-6pm except on 30 September when it is 10am-3pm.
Limited edition prints are available in my rebooted Shop, of which more presently.
Rebooted Website, Shop & Editions
Unfortunately my old website Shop suffered a malicious attack a couple of months ago and had to be killed off. (This was as a result of my former web design company refusing to upgrade the software when I asked them to, but that's another sad story that I won't bore you with). However, the dark cloud had a silver lining as my new Shop is now more fully integrated into my main website and I believe this makes for a much more pleasant visitor experience. I will gradually be adding products back on but as always if you have any comments for improvement then please let me know.
The main website has also had an overhaul and is now much more enjoyable to view and navigate on mobile devices such as smartphones and iPads. I have streamlined the menus and content so again this will hopefully make for a more user-friendly experience. Please try it for yourself and let me know if you discover any annoyances so that I can get them sorted out.
Following consultations with gallery owners and others I have revised my print options and edition sizes to make them much more limited and exclusive, so that you can collect my work with confidence. From now on the TOTAL edition size of an image will be limited to around 25-30 prints, usually in three different size editions of 40 x 27 inches (5 + 2 AP), 30 x 20 inches (7 + 2 AP) and 18 x 12 inches (9); editions that have already started selling will run their course.
Photographing Snowdonia and the Karoo National Park
In June I had very successful photography trips to Snowdonia in North Wales and the Karoo National Park in South Africa. I was fortunate to be able to capture the full moon over the Great Escarpment in the Karoo and we also had some great wildlife sightings, including a Verreaux's black eagle and bat-eared foxes.
Windsor Contemporary Art Fair
I'm very pleased to say that I've been accepted to participate in the 12th annual Windsor Contemporary Art Fair, which will be held at the Royal Windsor Racecourse (SL4 5JJ) on 12 & 13 November.
This is one of the friendliest art fairs in the calendar and a great place to explore contemporary art. I shall be showcasing new work alongside over 150 other selected exhibitors. I am planning to exhibit some of my recent project work, including large format landscape pictures of Snowdonia and my winning ArtGemini entries.
It’s a really exciting and inspirational event to be part of and I hope to see you there. I will of course be happy to talk about my work and technique.
There's an exclusive Private View on the evening of the 11th November. Let me know if you are interested in receiving a PV invitation.
You can buy advanced discounted tickets for 12th and 13th November online from this link: www.windsorcontemporaryartfair.co.uk.
Given that things are a little busy at home at the moment I'm offering a limited number of photography experiences over the next few months and into next year:
I'm still working on dates for the next photography experiences in Northumberland, the Peak District, the Lake District, the Jurassic Coast and the British Wildlife Centre. Hopefully I'll be able to confirm details in my next newsletter.
African Safari in 2017-18
As I mentioned last time, Sylvie's arrival means that my safari programme will recommence in 2017. The details of my two planned safaris are as follows:
- August 2017: 15 days Kenya. Amboseli, Samburu, Great Lakes, and six full days in the Maasai Mara to photograph the Great Migration. Total cost including international flights from the UK estimated to be in the region of £7,500.
- August 2018: 14 days South Africa, including the West Coast wildflowers and 10 days in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with some of the best big cat (and meerkat) photography available anywhere in the world. Total cost including international flights from the UK estimated to be in the region of £4,950.
Places on the safaris will be extremely limited so if you are interested to join one of these adventures then please let me know as soon as possible.
