HELLO

As Winter comes to an end and the weather warms up, we are excited to get started on our Spring goals.

This month we shine a light on the ATO scam and how to identify it, to avoid getting caught out.

Also, keep scrolling to check out our August blogs. This month we talked about the signs your business structure is wrong and how to avoid blurring the lines between business and personal finances.

We also have an exciting new addition to our front desk, check it out below.

All the best,
The team at 542 Partners

Scam Alert
ATO themed scam

Keep your eyes peeled for this new ATO-themed scam email that requests your credit/debit card details. Do not click on the link in the email or disclose your personal info.

This scam asks recipients to log into a fake site called ‘ATO Office Portal’ or ‘ATO Gateway Portal’, where the scammers hope to steal your online banking details, credit card numbers and limits, and address. Warn your family and friends so they don’t fall for it!

Remember: Never share your personal details via email or links from emails. And if you’re not sure about the validity of a tax-related message contact the ATO directly.

5 Signs your business structure is wrong for you

Choosing your business structure is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a business owner.
Choosing the right structure can maximise tax opportunities and minimise risk, ultimately contributing to the financial success of your business. Aside from causing operational pain, the wrong business structure can literally cost hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of your business.
Check out our 5 signs your business needs a restructure.

How to avoid blurring the lines between business and personal finances

Whether you’re a sole trader or in an alternate business structure, managing your personal and business finances separately is essential for good financial management.
We know it’s not uncommon to use personal savings, particularly when bringing your business idea to life, but as your business grows, it’s important to track business and personal incomings and outgoings separately.

Xero 2 Factor Authentication

Xero has released it's two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security. When you have Two-Step Authentication enabled you need to use a second method to login to Xero. In addition to your standard Xero username and password, you also have to enter a six-digit code provided by a separate app on your smartphone, Google Authenticator.
