Church Plant Update:

Just when we were about to open back up for in person worship our city became the epicenter in Japan for corona virus.  We put off worshipping in person for a few more weeks.  Now our members are taking turns coming to worship and some staying home to worship via Zoom.  Pray for that the BFF family will remain solid in their faith and still be strengthened even though we are missing much of our normal in person fellowship.

Keep on keeping on...

We continue to feel the affects of social distancing and all of the turmoil this has brought to ministry.  It has been months since we've had a concert or lead worship outside of our church plant (and online).  We are still able to speak for local Christian school chapel services through recorded messages or over the school loudspeaker system, but other than that all travel has stopped for us.  We continue to have Bible studies via Zoom, and BFF has now had two weeks of worship both in person/via Zoom.  Everyone is taking turns coming to attend in person and we are using both Aroma House, and our home *just around the corner* as a location for in person fellowship and worship.  We long for the day we can go back to "normal".  As I am sure you all do as well.

ASK has continued through Zoom.  We will finish this semester in two weeks and hopefully after the summer break can go back to having the kids meet at Aroma House in person.  We just have to remain flexible, and luckily the students are all now accustomed to online lessons in case we need to go back to that at any time.

Since Japanese schools took so much time off to prevent the spread of the virus, there will be very little summer vacation.  The vacation days they are allowed will overlap with the Obon season, a Buddhist holiday that honors the return of ancestral spirits to the ancestral home.  Most will be traveling to see family (think of the American Thanksgiving holiday) and so we do not see an opportunity to do any ministry this summer on a larger scale.  We are praying about whether to try to have some smaller ministry just to focus on our little church and those immediately connected with our ministry.  Please pray that we would use the time wisely in the summer to strengthen and encourage our group.

Our family...

Our family remains healthy and happy!  We are enjoying a less hectic lifestyle.  Hana is enjoying her new school although there are so many new things to adjust to, she is handling it well!  Kai has begun his 6th grade year of homeschool, and is enjoying tennis and online games with his friends.  Rocky is back in the studio after the completion of Kaori's album, now working on our next set of songs!  I love hearing what he comes up with and can't wait to get this music out for Japanese church's to use for worship!  I (Marla) am busy keeping up with Hana's schedule, my teaching Bible at the same school, Kai's homeschool, still discipling a few people through Zoom, and so forth.  Thank you for praying.  Especially pray as Hana continues to adjust to school and the social environment there.  Pray that both our kiddos would find their identity in Jesus, and would begin to solidify their own faith as they grow and venture out into the world a little more with each passing year.

Please also pray for other ministries and missionaries in Japan.  It is always a big concern that churches and ministers' families will be labeled the ones who brought the disease into a school or church by the media and the community, if they catch it.  Please pray for protection for Christian leaders in Japan!

As always we would love to hear from you.  Please let us know how you and your family are during this pandemic, and how we can be praying for you!

With all our Love,
The Aroma Team
