Staffing news:
You will see another familiar face around the club for the next several weeks as Ethan Jeffers is home from school for the summer and will be working while on break. Junior Joe Purton will also be working a bit this summer. Joe is currently in Trinidad and Tobago competing in the CAJGC, but will begin work upon his return. We are looking forward to having them both back on staff.

And some sad news, Renee Barrett will be leaving NSGC this month. Renee is moving with her daughter to Canada.  We want to thank Renee for her 5 years of service and wish her all the best in her next chapter; she will be missed!
Proration of membership dues:

We have had some inquiries about a pro-rated portion of dues, we do offer that but not until October 1.

Golf Tip of the Month

Drive for show, putt for dough! It’s one of golf’s favorite clichés, and it could not be further from the truth. Golf professionals often hear their members say, “if I could only putt, I’d be a good player.” It would be a slight exaggeration to say that all 20-handicappers putt the same, but the difference between the average 10-handicap player and the average 20-handicap player in terms of putting isn’t as big as you might think. The main difference between the players is that a 10-handicap player will tend to hit the ball closer to the hole, thus having easier putts than a 20-handicap.
We can take the argument even further. To date, the average winnings of the top ten ball strikers on tour is $3.6 million dollars. (Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green) Conversely, the average winnings for the top ten putters on tour is $1.5 million dollars. (Strokes Gained Putting) No players are top ten in both lists but Rickie Fowler is currently the 11th best ball striker on tour and the 7th in Putting.
So what is the takeaway? Putting is important, but the best way to lower your scores is to hit more solid shots, closer to the hole.

Thanks for reading.
Until next month, see you on the course!
