Guests on the evening were treated to a first sneak peek at upcoming events, workshops, special events, performances, activities, and projects which will be coming to the Cummins Theatre over the next six months.

With free flowing drinks, plenty of food, and some live performance mingled in with video presentations of the program it was an interesting evening.

For the past two weeks the Cummins Kids have been having a blast over running the theatre as they get a close encounter with the Bard, William Shakespeare.

Led by Trent Baker, the Cummins Kids have been learning about Shakespearean language, performance traditions, locations of Shakespearean plays, and some performance basics.

Currently the kids are rehearsing scenes from Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, in preparation for a short performance on Sunday afternoon.

Venue Manager's Report

Not a month goes by where there isn't something HUGE taking place at the theatre and this past month has been no exception.

Firstly some HUGELY EXCITING news!
The Cummins Theatre has been very fortunate to receive funding from the Department of Culture and the Arts Community Engagement Grants Program to continue the Cummins Kids program over the next 12 months and expand it to engage a larger sector of the community. What this means is we will be able to offer workshops not just for the 7-17 year old age group but all age groups.

So far we have plans to offer some upcoming workshops specifically catering for early childhood, young children, teenagers, young adults, adults, and seniors. As these programs become more developed we will begin to advertise them on the Cummins website so keep your eyes peeled for some exciting announcements.

Next, some HUGELY HAPPY news!
As of July 1st the Cummins Theatre Bar is being officially handed over to the Merredin Repertory Club to run for all programmed theatre events. This is a return to the previous way the bar was run and should open up many more opportunities for the Repertory Club to raise funds for their activities. This change will also allow the theatre management to focus more time and energy on improving the theatre as a destination for culture and the arts in the Wheatbelt.

Outside of programmed events the operation of the bar will be negotiated on a event by event basis opening up the opportunity for community groups to run their own bar during their events at the theatre. If you would like to know more please get in touch.

Lastly, some HUGELY MOVING news!
The Cummins Theatre office is moving...just next door. Currently the Cummins Theatre office takes up what was once the theatre foyer. After community consultation it was felt that the foyer would be better utilised as a foyer again, especially for small events which use the front entrance. There was also a great desire from the community to be able to use the historic entrance to the theatre once more.

To accommodate this change the theatre office will be moving into the old store front on the opposite side of the theatre entrance. It is also hoped that this change will allow better access to theatre staff, encourage more visitors to drop in to the theatre, and improve the public appearance of the building. You should see some movement happening in the coming weeks so keep an eye out!

That is it for this month! Take some time to peruse the new theatre program, book some tickets, attend a workshop, or simply pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. See you at the theatre soon!
