Past Events

For the month of March the Cummins Theatre was overtaken by a hoard of fairytale creatures as our Cummins Kids participated in two weeks of fairytale workshops. Led my storytelling superstar Mark Storen and accompanied by his partners in crime Rhiannon Street and Zoe Peters, the children participated in drama games, learned about developing characters, and honed their skills as talented storytellers in their own retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Merredin to develop their own show from the ground up and would not have been possible without the generosity of The Shire of Merredin and Lotterywest. We also must thank the Merredin Men's Shed for building our giant storybook set which was expertly painted by the very talented Taylor, and the Merredin Repertory Club who provided costumes to turn our talented tykes into wolves, fairy godmothers, and even a penguin!

Upcoming Cummins Kids Workshops and Events

Cummins Kids is our fantastic program for children aged 7-17 years giving them the opportunity to participate in arts based workshops and performances with professional performers, directors and artists. We have one workshop coming up and we want you to get involved!
Building on the amazing success of the Silent Film Making Workshop in 2015, Desiree Longworth and Brandon Bowman return to the Cummins Theatre for a one week workshop where the youth of Merredin can create their own music videos.

Date: April 11th – 15th 2016

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm daily

These workshops are $20 for Cummins Kids members.

Celebrate the timeless masterpieces of BOB DYLAN and NEIL YOUNG with an unforgettable 90 minute performance starring the renowned John Hastwell and Stuart Day, with acoustic bassist Quinton Dunne.

From the instantly recognizable Mr. Tambourine Man to the iconic Heart of Gold, The Dylan and Young Show delivers the essence of the musical genius that has inspired and rocked the free world for over five decades.

See it to believe it!

After wowing and amazing packed 2015 crowds, and filming a new TV show, Comedy Hypnotist Matt Hale is back to dish up another tasty serve of his modern brand of fun, friendly hypno laughs in this special show full of new routines.

As always, it’s volunteers-only on stage, so you get to decide whether to join him for the full experience, or be amazed and laugh yourself silly from the audience.

Turning the traditional hypnosis show on it’s head, Matt has zero interest in embarrassing anyone, and truly wants the volunteers to have as much fun as the audience whilst amazing themselves with what their imagination is capable of.

No two shows are ever the same!

Load the kids into the car and come along to what will be an unforgettable and hilarious experience for the whole family.

Canadian comic Marty Putz comes straight from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival loaded with gizmos, gadgets and weird inventions.

This 60 minute show is a mad-cap ride that involves audience participation and more laughs than the average family can bear.

Putz’s infectious enthusiasm, youthful charm and truly inventive humour has led to sell-out family shows around the world.

His television appearances are numerous including on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Perfect entertainment for the whole family! More information about Marty Putz can be found here: martyputz.com

Venue Manager's Report

It is nice to be busy and boy have I been busy this last month!

On top of our shows, workshops, and private events, the theatre has been undergoing a lot of development behind the scenes. Our local technical guru, Ben is off to the Techwest conference in Perth this week to learn about the latest gadgets and gizmos for theatres. We have also been visited by the WA Museum who attended the theatre for a day to learn more about the venues history and place within the local community.

Preparations are also underway for programming the 2016/2017 year of shows, workshops, and other opportunities at the theatre. I am hoping to launch the new program at the end of May and am confident that there is something for everyone. If you have any ideas of performances, workshops, or other opportunities you would like to see at the theatre please drop into the office, send me an email, or pick up the phone. I would LOVE to hear your ideas!

Lastly, a bit of personal news - Ben and I are expecting our first baby in September of this year! There will be some changes in staffing during this time but I can guarantee you that we will be returning to Merredin after the arrival (we love this place too much to leave).

As always I would love to hear from you so please contact me with any questions, queries, complaints, or compliments you may have.

That's it for now! See you next month - Emma (Cummins Theatre Manager). :)
