EUNIC NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER 2018
Dear colleagues,

We are just back from Vilnius where we discussed better engagement within the network with some of the 'smaller' members of EUNIC. Estonian Institute, Hellenic Foundation for Culture and Arts Council Malta were just some of the eleven EUNIC members who joined. We brainstormed how members without a worldwide network can participate in some of the larger projects implemented together with EU Delegations. We have seized the opportunity of this meeting to video interview Aušrinė Žilinskienė, Head Lithuanian Culture Institute and host of the meeting, who talks about the preferred outcomes of it and gives some reading advice to learn more about the history of this particular part of Europe.

Have a great week and enjoy this new edition of our newsletter.

MEET THE PEOPLE OF EUNIC: AUŠRINĖ ŽILINSKIENĖ
What's the literary penchant of Lithuanians today? Watch Aušrinė Žilinskienė talk about two of her favourite books and learn about Lithuanian Culture Institute. Aušrinė explains her expectations of organising a workshop on inclusive EUNIC engagement for members with smaller networks and resources. Before Aušrinė became the Head of Lithuanian Culture Institute in 2014, she served as a Project Manager at the Lithuanian Association of Artists and worked for Books from Lithuania, a literary information centre and translation promoting fund. Aušrinė studied German Linguistics in Lithuania.

EUNIC NEWSLETTER SURVEY RESULTS
Many thanks to those colleagues who responded to our survey. The majority of colleagues would like to hear more about EUNIC projects worldwide. Each newsletter will continue to present projects from the entire network. Other suggestions included upping our game on social media and ensuring our website is as user friendly as possible. We are currently making small but effective changes on the website and are becoming more active on Twitter and Facebook.

TAKE US TO ... BRAZIL: "WHAT EUROPE STANDS FOR BECAME PHYSICALLY VISIBLE"
What legacy has the year 1968 in Brazil today? Are there any links to the events in Europe? These questions served as a starting point for an investigation with artists, writers, and other experts in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraty in Brazil. Robin Mallick, cluster president in Rio and responsible for the implementation of the project, in an interview with EUNIC Global talks about the freedom of speech and how to overcome repetitive self-representation of a country. Read the full interview on our website.

Is there a cluster at my new posting? How can EUNIC support my project with extra finances? Those were some of the questions asked by members of the French cultural network at the "speed dating" event in Paris, organised as part of the annual cultural staff meeting of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. This summer they invited EUNIC Global to talk to colleagues moving on to new posts or refreshing their knowledge about current EUNIC projects. Gitte also participated in a panel on European collaboration at that same event.
