Call to Action: Ask Candidates to Pledge
to Protect OPL Funding

Fifteen candidates want your vote to be the next mayor of Oakland. WE want their pledge to protect the funding needed to keep the Oakland Public Library great – now and in the future!

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Join us at as many candidate forums as possible. Fill out question cards and/or raise your hand, and ask each candidate:

The OPL faces a $2.5-$3.5 million deficit in each year of the 2015-17 budget cycle due to a reduction in General Fund support. This lack of funding will lead to the closure of 6-8 branches. How will you address this shortfall and ensure stable funding for the OPL in the future?

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Here are all the mayoral forums we could find – plus the first event, which is a forum for City Council candidates. We’re gathering forum info for the Council candidates now -- because they are just as important to inform!
