OUR LANGUAGE RIGHTS BIWEEKLY
Canadian. Language. News.

Sept 27th, 2021

On our mind this week:
- Celebrate International Translation Day! In a historic move to recognize the role of translation in international discourse and the promotion of human rights, on May 24th, 2017 the UN approved Resolution A/71/L.68, declaring September 30th as the International Translation Day. Sponsored by Belarus, with 10 other nations mentioned on the document and 16 additional countries to co-sponsor, the date was chosen in honor of the Catholic Feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator and patron saint of translation.
- Support our friends at the Global Coalition for Language Rights on September 30th at the Intl Translation Day ProZ Conference discussing
"What are language rights and why are they important? - Language is a right in itself, and language rights are integral to human rights. This panel will share their perspectives on the landscape of language justice, and on how freelance language professionals and language service providers can contribute to language advocacy. "
- And last but not least, read our blog, LACC Chat with language advocate- Rozeta Aleksov, a seasoned community advocate and currenlty a coordinator at the National-level Collaboration For Local Immigration Partnerships (LIP) who is sharing her experiences about what makes advocacy sustainable long term.
