Livres Canada Books

Livres Canada Books Business

Livres Canada Books is hoping to hold an "Exchange Export" event in conjunction with the Canada Council for the Arts Translation Rights Fair in early 2016 in Montreal. Participants of the Export Exchange will include heads of firms, rights and sales managers and the strategic business people from the Canadian book industry. This full day event will showcase speakers that have not been featured at traditional publishing conferences, infusing the event with new and unconventional ideas. The Export Exchange will create relationships that will go on to inspire new collaborative projects. Publishers will come away with a roadmap for collective and creative approaches to the many challenges and opportunities of rights and global sales.

We will keep you posted on the advancement of the proposal.

The coaching element of the France Mentoring Program recently took place at the Salon du livre de Paris. Five emerging exporters took part in the program, led by Nickie Athanassi of Mon Agent et Compagnie. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about their potential for export into France, promotional opportunities, the mechanisms of distribution, co-editions, and rights sales. Prior to the Salon du livre de Paris, program participants met with Nickie in Montreal to hear an overview of the market and to receive one-on-one consultations.

Canada Stand

The London Book Fair returned to the Olympia Convention Centre April  14th to the 16th with some small hurdles. The new location was beautiful but the signage was lacking. The Canada Stand hosted successful business meetings and sported a new design to better showcase the books on display. The fair organisers have assured us a better location for the Canada Stand in 2016.

The Canada Stand was full with 14 exhibitors and many other Canadian publishers exhibited on their own stands, on the stands of their distributor, or in the Rights Center. On April 13th, the High Commissioner of Canada to the United Kingdom, Gordon Campbell, hosted the Canadian Fair participants in a lovely reception at the newly renovated Canada House.

We invite you to take a look at our Facebook page to see photos of the Stand and the networking reception.
Don’t forget to let us know of any deals negotiated at the London Book Fair and we’ll promote them in our newsletter and on social networks.

For more information on the Canada Stand, visit our website or contact Programs Officer, Natalie McMullen, by email or telephone at 613 562-2324, extension 227.

BOLOGNA 2015: Wrap up

The 52nd edition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair drew record numbers: over 35,000 professionals (a 15% increase over last year) and 1,200 exhibitors from 77 countries attended. The Canada Stand was fully booked with nine publishers exhibiting.  In all, 30 Canadian publishers participated in the Fair.

Don’t forget to let us know about any deals made at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. We’ll promote them in our newsletter and through our social media accounts.

Registration for the Canada Stand at the 2015 Beijing International Book Fair (August 26 to 30, 2015) is still open. Livres Canada Books supports publishers on the stand by providing an interpreter, and promotional tools, including a Mandarin-English directory of Canadian exhibitors at the Fair and the Rights Canada catalogue. The exhibitor package also includes the services of a Chinese-language and cultural advisor who will provide publishers with an analysis of the potential of their titles for the Chinese market, assistance in scheduling meetings with Chinese colleagues before the fair, and translation into Mandarin of rights sheets for 2 titles. A pay-per-title option is available for publishers who cannot attend the fair in person.
