Upcoming Market Guides 

We are pleased to announce our upcoming 2017-2018 Market Guides, including two updates to our popular guides on Australia and the UK, and two new guides on the Indian book market and exporting French-language academic and scholarly books. Prepared by Canadian and international expert consultants, the guides will include expertise on sales and distribution channels, rights sales, territory specific copyright rules and regulations, opportunities for sales and co-editions, as well as information on increasingly important formats such as ebooks and audiobooks.

Frankfurt 2020: German Translation Program

The Canada Council for the Arts, in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage, has announced the creation of an additional funding opportunity for translation. To highlight Canada's selection as the 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour, a special 3-year initiative will go towards the translation of literary and non-literary books into German. Check the Canada Council website for updates in early 2018.
 

Call for applications: GOVERNOR GENERAL’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD IN CANADIAN STUDIES

The ICCS has issued a call for nominations for the Governor General's International Award for Canadian Studies, intended for a scholar who has made an outstanding contribution to scholarship and to the development of Canadian Studies internationally. Nominations must be submitted no later than November 24, 2017. For more information, visit the ICCS webiste
 

Call for Book Submissions for “Books at Berlinale”

The Berlin International Film Festival in collaboration with the Frankfurt Book Fair has issued a call for book submissions for Books at Berlinale. Aimed at fostering better cooperation between the film and book industries, the 13th edition of “Books at Berlinale” will take place on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Each year ten novels are presented to a high-profile audience of around 150 internationally established producers.

CANADIAN STUDIES COLLECTION 2018 COMING SOON

The 2018 Canadian Studies Collection is currently in production and will be available in February. This year’s edition features 80 titles and five advertisements on Canadian subjects from 30 publishers and will be promoted to Canadian Studies associations worldwide. Join the Canadian Studies Collection mailing list and make sure that you’re among the first to receive the 2018 Collection.

Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2018 – REGISTRATION OPENS THIS MONTH

The 2018 Bologna Children’s Book Fair, from March 26-29, 2018, will be open for registration in November. Again this year, the 80 sq.m. 2018 merged stand in Bologna features all of the usual exhibiting options of the Canada Stand in order to meet your needs of fair exposure. 
 
Halls 29 and 30 are undergoing construction and will therefore not be available for 2018. All exhibitors of these two pavilions will now be transferred to Halls 21, 22 and 32.

London Book Fair 2018 – REGISTRATION OPENS THIS MONTH

The 2018 London Book Fair, from April 10-12, 2018, will be open for registration in November. The Canada Stand will be at the same location as 2017 (6A100) on the ground floor of the Olympia Exhibition Centre in the general trade section, neighbouring the American collective stand.  Stand space is limited and is reserved on a first come, first served basis.

2017-2018 FRMAP payments - Bologna and London Book Fair CLAIMS

Please note: given the dates of the London and Bologna Book Fairs this upcoming spring, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair FRMAP claims will need to be submitted within the 2017-2018 fiscal year, while the London Book Fair FRMAP claims may be submitted in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
