Starting Friday, June 10, 2015, Livres Canada Books’ offices will close at 1 p.m. on Fridays. The summer schedule runs until Friday, September 2. Regular hours resume after Labour Day Weekend. We wish you all a great summer!

Our national publishing associations—Association for Canadian Publishers, l’Association des éditeurs de livres, and the Association of Canadian University Presses—will be receiving the guidelines for the upcoming mission to Colombia within the coming weeks. BC Book Prize winners announced

Rocky Mountain BooksNightwood Editions and Greystone Books were all awarded BC Book Prizes at the 32nd annual awards ceremony on April 30th. Congratulations to the winners, who throw a spotlight on British Columbia’s literature and authors.
 

Sylvain Harvey takes on the Hispanic market

We are pleased to announce that rights for La légende de LEZARDO DA VINCI published by Éditions Sylvain Harvey have been acquired in the following countries: Mexico, the US, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Mexican publisher Ediciones Urano was particularly enchanted by the universality of the character in this historical-fantasy legend.


UBC Press to develop a digital publishing platform in Indigenous studies

UBC Press and the University of Washington Press will develop a digital publishing platform in Indigenous studies thanks to a three-year grant awarded to the University of British Columbia by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This platform will respond to the needs of a new generation of readers, scholars, students and professionals pursuing Indigenous research and cultural revitalization projects.

La femme qui fuit published at Éditions Marchand de feuilles received the 2016 Prix des libraires du Québec at the Association des libraries du Québec’s 23rd annual awards ceremony.
 

Dominique et Compagnie receives Communications et Société Literary Award

Communications et Société presented its 2016 Literary Award to author Mélanie Perreault and illustrator Marion Arbona for their picture book Rosalie entre chien et chat, published by Éditions Dominique et Compagnie. Rosalie entre chien et chat was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award in 2015. Congratulations!
 

New Chapter: Arts Program to Mark the 150th Anniversary of Confederation

2016 SHORTLIST FOR THE RUTH AND SYLVIA SCHWARTZ CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Ontario Arts Council has announced the 2016 shortlist for the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Awards. We congratulate the nominated publishers: Tundra Books, Red Deer Press, Kids Can Press and Groundwood Books. This year’s winners will be selected by student juries from a Toronto elementary school.
