2015-2016 Board of Directors and Committees

Livres Canada Books welcomes the following members to its 2015-2016 Board of Directors: Martine Des Rochers (Presses de l’Université du Québec/ACUP), Antoine Tanguay (Éditions Alto/ANEL) and Bianca Drapeau (Marquis/Professional Advisor).

Louis-Frédéric Gaudet (Lux Éditeur) and Robert J. Dees (Robert Rose) have been re-elected to serve another two years on the Board.

We wish to sincerely thank Antoine Del Busso (Presses de l’Université de Montréal/ACUP) and Olivier Gougeon (Guides de voyage Ulysse/ANEL), whose terms have ended, for their dedication and service to the governance of Livres Canada Books.

Meet our Israel Mission consultants

Yael Shefer has been part of the cultural world in Israel for the past 25 years as a cultural and literary advisor, and artistic director. During this time Yael initiated and directed the First International Writers' Festival in Jerusalem. Later, Yael was the literary advisor to President of Israel Mr. Shimon Peres, organizing the cultural events at the President's Residence. For five years Yael was the Cultural advisor at the Jerusalem Development Authority, overseeing all cultural events in the City. Yael has also managed many literary events, book launches and literary and poetry festivals with the leading authors in Israel. Recently, Yael was the artistic director for the 27^th International Book Fair in Jerusalem.

Gilad Newman has over 12 years of experience in producing cultural events including international literature and poetry festivals, conferences, seminars, book launches, and concerts. Gilad produced the First international Writers Festival in Jerusalem, as well as many other literary events and book launches. Gilad has also worked with many of the leading book publishers in Israel on marketing campaigns, promoting the sale of books and literary events.

We are pleased to announce our upcoming 2015-2016 market guides. Livres Canada Books’ market guides are an indispensable resource written by industry experts, and provide the best and most up-to-date information on export markets for Canadian publishers. This year, we’ll be publishing reports on China, Mexico and Exporting English-language Academic and Scholarly Books. Market guides will be published throughout the year and will be announced through our newsletter and on Twitter and Facebook. RIGHTS CANADA FALL 2015 NOW AVAILABLE

The Rights Canada fall 2015 catalogue is now available on our website; download your copy! The catalogue, now in its 25^th year, features 71 titles from 25 Canadian publishers. The catalogue has been distributed digitally to our targeted network of international contacts. Print and USB copies of the catalogue will be available at the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair and at the Guadelajara International Book Fair in November/December. CANADIAN STUDIES COLLECTION REGISTRATION OPENS SOON

Have you published a book that may be of interest to Canadian Studies scholars? Registration for Livres Canada Books’ 2016 Canadian Studies Collection opens soon! New this year, the Collection will be expanding to offer publishers the option of including descriptions, author bios, and review quotes alongside standard bibliographic information. Start combing your front and backlist for titles to feature in the Collection!

LONDON BOOK FAIR – New Stand Location

Registration is open for the 2016 London Book Fair. The 2016 edition of the fair will take place at the Olympia location from April 12 to 14, 2016. The Canada Stand will feature a new location in a key position near the US collective stand. Stand space is limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. Bologna Children’s Book Fair - Invitation coming soon

Keep an eye out for our invitation to exhibit on the Canada Stand at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which is taking place from April 4 to 7, 2016.
 

Guadalajara Book Fair – canada stand almost full 

The Canada Stand has only a few remaining spots available to exhibit at the Guadalajara Book Fair in November. The Guadalajara International Book Fair is the most important publishing event in Ibero-America. Some 1,945 exhibitors from 44 countries and 20,300 international publishing industry professionals are expected to attend the 29^th edition of the fair in 2015. Register now on our website.

FRMAP and Mentoring – Funding Support agreements sent out

Contribution agreements have been sent to publishers eligible for the 2015-2016 FRMAP and Mentoring – Funding Support programs. Publishers who return their signed agreements will also be sent the first instalment of their Mentoring – Funding Support contribution and payments for their approved FRMAP claims.

Rights Sales for Arsenal Pulp and Tradewind Books

Arsenal Pulp has recently sold rights in the UK (Little, Brown) and in Germany (Bruno Gmunder) for When Everything Feels like the Movies by Raziel Reid, winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award and Canada Reads finalist.Tradewind Books has sold rights in China for ShuLi and Diego and ShuLi and Tamara, both written by Paul Yee and illustrated by Shaoli Wang.

Congratulations to the award-winning University of Alberta Press

Alongside several shortlist nominations at the Alberta Book Publishing Awards, University of Alberta Press was recognized as Publisher of the Year by the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA). The press’s director, Linda Cameron, has also received the President’s Award from the Association of Canadian Publishers for her decades of exemplary service to the Canadian publishing. Congratulations on these much-deserved honours.
