The passing of a great man 

It is with profound sadness that we were informed that Guy Frenette, former President of Livres Canada Books, has passed away. Guy was an important person for the Association. He helped build Livres Canada Books and we can be proud of what he accomplished during his years of service.

New Webinar: Explore the Australian Book Market

What promise does this book market valued at nearly $1 billion hold for Canadian publishers? On Tuesday, March 29^th, explore the potential of the Australian book market with host Nerrilee Weir, Rights Manager of Penguin Random House Australia. Since 1998, she has been responsible for selling rights in both the adult and children’s lists in all markets outside of Australia and New Zealand. Nerrilee handles English language rights sales (North America and the United Kingdom), translation rights sales, as well as film, television and audio rights. Nerrilee will present an overview of the market, information on selling rights into Australia, and case studies of successes and failures in translation. Cost is free.

Report on the Scouting Mission to Israel Coming Soon

In November 2015, Livres Canada Books led a Scouting Mission to Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem to explore the potential of the Israeli publishing market. A report on the mission covering information specific to the scholarly, trade, and children’s markets will be available in March. The report will be available as a free download on our website and will be announced via Twitter and Facebook. 

2016 Canadian Studies Collection in production

The 2016 Canadian Studies Collection is currently in production and will be available later this month. This year’s edition features 27 publishers with 73 titles on Canadian subjects to be promoted to Canadian Studies associations worldwide. The Collection will be available at the London Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair. Join the Canadian Studies Collection mailing list and make sure that you’re among the first to receive the 2016 Collection.
 

Spring 2016 Rights Canada Catalogue Coming Soon!

The Rights Canada catalogue is currently in production and will be available by the end of March. The spring edition includes 39 titles from 19 publishers, and will be distributed at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the London Book Fair. Be sure to visit our website for a PDF download of the catalogue or join the Rights Canada mailing list to stay up to date on Rights Canada publication.

Consolidated Shipping for Bologna and London

Livres Canada Books is organizing a combined shipment to the 2016 Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the London Book Fair for publishers with shipments weighing less than 100 kg, exclusively through Panalpina’s Toronto warehouse.
 
The deadline to participate in the Bologna shipment is Friday, March 4, 2016.
The deadline to participate in the London shipment is Monday, March 28, 2016.

2016–2017 FRMAP and Mentoring Application Deadlines April 1, 2016

The application deadline for FRMAP and the Mentoring - Funding Support program for 2016–2017 is April 1, 2016. Application guidelines and forms for both programs are available on our website.
 

Submit Your 2015–2016 FRMAP Claims by April 22, 2016

Publishers eligible for FRMAP in 2015-2016 are asked to submit claims for events and export sales trips taking place up to March 31, 2016 no later than Friday, April 22, 2016. Your cooperation is essential in helping us disburse contribution payments as soon as possible after the end of the financial year.
 

2015–2016 Mentoring - Funding Support Final Reports due May 6, 2016

The deadline to submit final reports for the Mentoring - Funding Support Program for 2015–2016 is Friday, May 6, 2016. Guidelines and forms are available on our website.

Bouton d’or d’Acadie is a finalist for an Éloize Award in the “Support for Artistic Production” category. This coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the publishing house, which will be celebrated throughout 2016. Congratulations on this achievement!

Canada Reads 2016

Congratulations to House of Anansi Press, whose title Bone and Bread by Saleema Nawaz has been selected as one of the five titles being debated during this year’s Canada Reads. The book will be defended by Farah Mohamed, an award-winning activist and the founder and CEO of G(irls)20. Best of luck!
