MiEnergy Cooperative receives Electric Cooperative Purpose Award

MiEnergy Cooperative (Rushford, Minn.) was awarded the Electric Cooperative Purpose Award during the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's PowerXchange and TechAdvantage Experience. MiEnergy was recognized for innovative partnerships that will increase broadband access to local communities and bring battery storage systems into members' homes. Click here to learn more.

Broadband Expansion Projects

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin recently awarded $28.4 million for 58 projects through its Broadband Expansion Grant program to expand high-speed broadband internet access to unserved and underserved locations in 44 counties. Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services (Ellsworth, Wis.) was awarded over $789,000. Ntera, LLC, a partnership between Chippewa Valley Electric Cooperative (Cornell, Wis.) and Citizens Connection (New Auburn, Wis.), was awarded over $757,000. Tech Com and Richland-Grant Telephone Cooperative, part of an ongoing collaboration with Richland Electric Cooperative (Richland Center, Wis.), also received significant grant support. Click here for additional information.  

Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative (Postville, Iowa) received more than $4.5 million from the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant Program to bring broadband service to portions of five townships. Click here for additional information.

Dairy Business Innovation Alliance Grant Program

 The Dairy Business Innovation Alliance (DBIA), a partnership between the Center for Dairy Research (CDR) and Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), is now accepting grant applications. During this grant cycle, DBIA will be distributing $1 million in grants. Eligible projects include dairy farm diversification, the creation of “value added” dairy products and starting/increasing exports of dairy products. Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded through a competitive process. Dairy enterprises (farmers, entrepreneurs, processors, etc.) in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin are eligible to apply. Value-Added Producer Grant Program

USDA recently announced that it is making an additional $35 million available this year in the Value-Added Producer Grant Program to support agricultural producers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, $76 million is available. USDA is also extending the application deadline to May 4, 2021 and is reducing the match requirement for applicants seeking the $35 million in COVID-19 relief funding.  

Value-Added Producer Grants may be used to develop new products from raw agricultural products or to promote new markets for established products. Click here for additional information.

The program focuses transformation strategies categorized by Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion and Organization.
