Mei wishes you a great 2016!

Mei has plenty of plans for 2016. This year we have projects on site worth some 90 million euros. Our newsletter takes a brief look back at 2015, a year that saw the completion of the much-praised McDonald’s on Coolsingel and the start of construction on two big projects - De Verkenner residential tower in Utrecht and Fenix I in Rotterdam.

Construction of Fenix I starts

Construction work on Fenix I started in December 2015. Parts of the Fenix warehouses are currently being demolished, and that work is intense. In a short film on the fenixlofts website, Robert Winkel explains why the demolition work is necessary. Thanks to our experience with the transformation of the Jobsveem warehouse and De Fabriek in Delfshaven, we know that this phase is necessary in order to achieve a better final result. Film about Gouda Cheese Warehouse

In 2016 Gouda Cheese Warehouse 'De Producent' will be transformed into a residential building with 50 loft apartments. In the film that Mei made about this unique national monument, Robert Winkel talks about the history of the building and explains its transformation. Watch the film here.

Almost finished

Construction of De Verkenner in the Kanaleneiland district of Utrecht is progressing steadily. The residential tower has already reached a height of 50 metres and is clearly visible from the A2 and A12 motorways. The building is expected to be finished by mid-March. New Year’s reception

Mei wants to start the new year with you in style. So join us in the unique Rijksadministratie building in Gouda, which Mei is converting into six luxury city villas.

Doll's House

Mei is building a doll’s house for the Doll’s House project by Peter Masselink. Twenty Dutch architects are designing and making a doll’s house for children with a metabolic energy problem. The doll’s houses will be exhibited and auctioned, and the proceeds will go to medical research.

Committee for Architecture and Built Environment Amsterdam

From the start of 2016, Robert Winkel has become a member of the Design Review Committee for Building Permits and Monuments in Amsterdam. He had already been invited to share his views about future developments in Amsterdam in the Winter Guests event organized by VG Visie in late 2015.

Book recommendation

Architectural historian and publicist Marinke Steenhuis wrote the book 'The Port of Rotterdam. World Between City and Sea'. It is a wonderful book about the history and future of the port. The book also features the Fenix building. Highly recommended.
