July 2021 Newsletter

Welcome to the fourth newsletter from the Homestead Cybrarium. We're excited to share the latest news about programs and services being offered to our community throughout the month of July.

Featured Programs

During the very warm month of July, the Cybrarium is celebrating Parks & Recreation. This month we also continue our Summer Reading Program during which we will highlight and share opportunities to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Several new clubs are already underway for our patrons to join and engage across multiple areas of interest. We have also recently added 45 new "experiences" to our Virtual Reality (VR) Cube. We look forward to welcoming many more patrons as they take the opportunity to explore these new virtual adventures!
Join Ms. Patty as she reads a wild story about a librarian, Molly McGrew, who by mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo.

In the Community

This month, the Homestead Cybrarium is very excited to be hosting the FREE "MAGIC Summer Camp!" This collaboration between the City of Homestead and Miami Dade College will provide students (ages 13-17) who reside in Homestead, the opportunity to learn how to create their own video games, using the the same techniques as industry professionals.

The Cybrarium is proud to be the new home of the Lamplighters Writing Group. The Lamplighters are a group of talented and aspiring writers with a flexible and dedicated membership. Meetings will be held the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Collection Highlight

The New Rules of Aging Well by Frank Lipman, MD and Danielle Claro

“Essential reading for COVID times. . . . The tool we all need right now: a smart, straightforward guide that speaks directly to the question: How can I build a strong immune system? The book is packed with clear, actionable advice for building a strong immune system, losing weight, feeling younger and aging beautifully.”
Yahoo! Life

How you age is up to you. And it’s easy to take charge.

From the renowned integrative doctor Frank Lipman comes a radically simple program to reverse the symptoms we reflexively call “normal aging,” including feeling achy, stiff, sluggish, weak, and vulnerable to chronic illness. This improves not only our life span but, more importantly, our health span—our quality of life and how we feel.

Built on a series of lifestyle changes that energize the body and build and strengthen its immune system, The New Rules of Aging Well is based on ancient wisdom backed up by science: Eat less and practice intermittent fasting. Do 20 minutes a day of something meditative. Switch to gentler workouts, but move as much as possible. Unlock the incredible power of mushrooms. Grow your tribe. Walk barefoot when you can.

The result: a rejuvenated you that looks great and feels healthy, happy, sexy, agile, and strong.
