Update of Club Activities

What has happened and what will be happening - Feb. 2018

Work with the athletes has been continuing since the beginning of January, and things are starting to "heat up". We have had a number of new athletes join our group, some TRU athletes have joined us in a collaborative attempt to further Track and Field at the University, we have had a milestone birthday, a fond farewell, and our first sanctioned meet in the upgraded TCC facility.

Club registrations have continued to grow. At the time of this writing, the club has 93 registered athletes from Track Rascal (6-8) up to Master (35+). This keeps our coaches very busy organizing training programs and meeting the needs of their athletes. For some of our coaches, having parents come out to practice and asking if there is any way for them to help would be a real bonus. This is especially true for our younger athletes - Track Rascal and JD. Sometimes these little ones don't listen as well as we would like, and any assistance with supervising at these times would help.

We welcome those TRU athletes who have joined us to train. Their BC Athletics membership has been paid through the university as team members of TRU, but those who have not yet paid their club fees are reminded to contact our Registrar, Brian Beck at to discuss the fees owing for use of our equipment and coaches.

Ines Richerzhagen, an international student from Germany joined our club early in the Indoor Season. She worked out with Coaches Shane and Christine. Sadly (for us), Ines had to return home at the end of January. Ines, the club, your coaches and your teammates will miss you. View more photos by following this link - Photos of the Party

One of our club members, Derm Strong, reached a milestone at the beginning of January. When his teammates learned about his 70th birthday, they threw a surprise party for him at one of their practices. Derm, one of the "nice guys" was surprised by their efforts and the whole club joins his teammates in wishing Derm a Happy Birthday.

Gary Reed Indoor Meet

On the weekend of February 9 and 10, we held our first Indoor meet on the renovated track and field facility at the Tournament Capital Centre. We didn't have as many athletes attend the meet as we expected. There were still enough competitors that we were able to figure out some of the "bugs" that go along with major changes to a facility.

In total, there were 139 athletes who competed at the meet. Of these, 44 of our Kamloops Track and Field Club athletes competed and represented the club and themselves very well in a variety of events that were offered. Results from the meet can be found linked on our website on the Meet Results page. Follow that link to find the results.

Van Ryswyk Indoor Meet / BC Masters Indoor Championship / Outdoor Spring Throws Meet

Our second indoor meet of the year is coming up on March 9-11. This meet combines a meet named after long-time club member and official, Alwilda Van Ryswyk, with the BC Masters Indoor Championships. This is one of the meets where registered athletes of our club get their first 3 events free before they begin paying for events they enter. Our hope is that all of our club athletes, JD and older, will compete in at least one event.

New this year is the Indoor Pentathlon for male and female Youth athletes along with Masters athletes. We need a minimum of 8 total athletes in order to ensure this event goes ahead.
