KTFC November Newsletter

November, 2019
It's been quite a while since our last newsletter. Our indoor programs have started and registrations have been coming in. This is a reminder to those who have not yet paid their Indoor Season fees that they must get this done right away. This is one of the ways that the club generates revenue so that we can pay our coaches for the time that they spend with you and your children, planning practices, and putting those plans into effect each time there is a training session.

Club fees also help us to update, maintain, and replace our equipment as required for training and for track meets that we host each year. So it is very important that club fees are paid on time.

We need all of our athletes to register online. This year, we are trying out a new online system through Trackie. There have been some glitches, but we are slowly working those out. If you have any problems with this system, please contact Judy Armstrong (250-319-6321) or judy54armstrong@gmail.com. Make sure that you provide a clear explanation for the issue(s) you are having and we'll work on fixing that for you.

You can access the online registration form from the following web address:

Greg Stewart - Silver at the Para-World Championships

Greg Stewart has been training with Coach Dylan Armstrong for the past few years, steadily climbing the rankings in Canada and the World in Shot Put. Earlier this month, Greg and Dylan were in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, so that Greg could represent Canada at the World Para Athletics Championships. Greg did that in another championship manner. He broke his own Canadian record (15.82m), twice, and then on his final throw, he broke the Canadian record again. This time he threw the shot 16.30m, becoming only the second F86 para-athlete to break the 16m mark.

Greg is returning to Kamloops to continue his training with Dylan as they work on his journey to represent Canada at the Olympics next year.

Congratulations, Greg and Dylan. Everyone sees the results of your work when you perform, but not many get the opportunity to see the very hard work you put in while training.

Volunteer Opportunities

We don't have a lot of opportunities for families to work their Volunteer Hours during the Indoor season. There are two Indoor track meets, and apart from those, there isn't much available. However, here is another opportunity that Coach Miriam Dziadyk has found and we need people to step up to work for a few hours.

We have been able to register for gift wrapping at Aberdeen Mall from December 9-13, and December 16. The club has to pay for this opportunity, so we hope that we can get enough support from our membership to make this work.

There are generally two shifts each day - Afternoon, 1:00 - 5:00, and Evening - 5:00 - 9:00.

Available times are:
  • Mon. Dec. 9 - 1-5. 5-9
  • Tues. Dec. 10 - 1-5, 5-9
  • Wed. Dec. 11 - 1-5, 5-9
  • Thur. Dec. 12 - 1-5, 5-9
  • Fri. Dec. 13 - 1-5, 5-9
  • Mon. Dec. 16 - 9:30-1, 1-5, 5-9
Please contact Nicole Ritter, Volunteer Coordinator at ritterfamily2000@yahoo.com to indicate your interest.

Mini Meets for Club Members

We are having two mini-meets, especially for our Junior Development athletes, but other club members are able to compete in order to prepare for our upcoming Indoor Meets in February. These events are especially important for our youngest/newest athletes to get them used to starting a race with an official starter, and for practicing their jumping techniques under officials who will also be at our regular meets.

The first meet is scheduled during practice times on Thursday, Dec. 5. After their warm-up at 4:30, the track will be available for timing from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Coach Miriam will have already filled in start lists for the various groups who will be competing, so please see her before this date, or early on Dec. 5 to get signed up. Events will be 60m, High Jump and/or Long Jump.

There is another one scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16. The same times and procedures will be followed, and very likely the same events.

Officials

Once again, we will be hosting our annual Official's Breakfast at TCC on January 19, 2020, starting at 9:00 am. We are hoping all our current officials will be there, as well as new folks who are interested in learning to be an accredited official. We are looking for people who want to participate in competitions and who will be willing to commit to a minimum of three events we will host in 2020. Please call Alwilda Van Ryswyk at 250-372-9640 if you are looking to become an official.

Uniforms and Water Bottles

Our shop from Kahunaverse will be open from Wednesday to Sunday this week (Nov. 20-24) if you want to purchase club uniforms. Please follow the link below to see the items that can be purchased, make your selections and use your credit card to pay.
Kamloops Track and Field Club Winter Order Form

Water bottles will also be available for $20 each, but we need 35 to be sold before we can commit to bringing them in. If you are interested in a water bottle, please provide your name and details on the bulletin board at the track.
