Family, Elephants, and an Island

In December, we were fortunate to have Daryl's parents visit with us for 3 weeks!  We enjoyed giving them a glimpse into our lives in Mozambique as well as catching up with them.  While they were here, we ventured into South Africa to do some Christmas shopping, visit Kruger Park, and took a trip to an elephant sanctuary.  The highlights were seeing 6 or 7 lions eating a water buffalo just off the road in Kruger Park and riding elephants at the sanctuary.  We were very thankful to have them stay through Christmas and celebrate this special holiday with us.

After Daryl's parents left we took a trip up to the northern part of Mozambique to visit 3 cities, fellowship with teammates, and discern if God would have us move there for future ministry.  We stayed on Mozambique Island, the original capital of Mozambique and because it contains so much history, it's a World Heritage Site.  The people that live in this area represent a fraction of the 4 million Makua people, a large unreached people group in northern Mozambique.

Now we are back in Maputo, trying to settle back down into our routine.  Our children returned to school earlier this week and began a new school year (Gabe and Eden are in 1st grade and Silas is in 4 year old preschool).  Daryl and Leah hope to begin their 3rd and last Portuguese course next week.

Praises:
  • We enjoyed a wonderful time with Daryl's parents.
  • We had a great trip up to Northern Mozambique.
Prayer Requests:
  • Please pray for all 5 of us as we return to school.  We are all trying to adjust to waking up very early and each child has a new teacher.  Gabe and Eden will be separated in school for their first time.
  • Please pray for God to give us clarity as to where He would have us live and do ministry.  A move to northern Mozambique will drastically change our lives as Leah would have to homeschool our children and we would live further from a large city containing shopping centers and some medical providers.  We recently read this verse together as we are seeking God's will for our future.        Proverbs 2:6 "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
  • Lastly, please pray for Daryl and Leah as they begin the process of getting their Mozambique driver's license.  We will have to take a driver's test in Portuguese.

We love all of you and are thankful for each and every one of you!
