Happy New Year, Baltimore Road Runners Club!
Founded in 1971, BRRC is the largest running club in Baltimore and the oldest in Maryland. That’s saying a lot! It is my honor to serve as President this year.
I am following the footsteps and running shoes of our Past President, Johnny Lyons. I speak for the entire Club and running community in thanking Johnny for the ongoing passion he has for BRRC and acknowledge the work he has done. Johnny continues to lead in many ways, but I would say his biggest undertaking has been making the seemingly impossible transition for me as President possible! In fact, it seems all of BRRC has picked me up and we are moving ahead with our usual boundless enthusiasm and expertise. How fortunate are we?! You will find many of Baltimore’s most experienced volunteers, runners, and leaders here with me, as our Officers, Board Members, and Race Directors: http://www.brrc.com/officers.
On to running in 2017! We have over 25 fun races again this year. We have our highly regarded road races of all distances, and, one of the few opportunities for track in our summer track meets, and, the most extensive trail running series in greater Baltimore. We have smiling volunteers, experienced race directors, and our events are guaranteed to be inclusive to runners of ALL paces and ages (2017 calendar). We are a non-profit, and define value to the running community. Many of our races are free to BRRC members. BE A MEMBER of BRRC! Sign up is by the calendar year, so sign up or renew today, $22 for a whole year!
Wasting no time in 2017, our first run is this Sunday, on New Year’s Day, at 9AM. We kick off 2017 with our race the Father Time Frolic, a 5 mile run at the secluded Loch Raven Reservoir. You can set your own pace, any pace (convenient for post New Year’s Eve!), but the winners are the runners who most accurately predict their time. Good Luck, and Get up and Go run!
My 2017 New Year’s message is to remind us that Running is a Gift. Sure, everyone knows that there are healthy physical benefits. But Running is more than that, and as a friend or member of BRRC, YOU know that. The opportunity for anyone to find happiness with running, and so much more, is ours to take and to share. For 2017, I hope you spread the word and get yours!
Happy New Year and Run Free, BRRC!
