In Memory of BRRC Founder Les Kinion

Baltimore Road Runners Club Founder Les Kinion died while visiting friends in his childhood home city of New York this past weekend. He will be cremated as he wished. A celebration of his life will be held at a time, date and place to be announced.

Many years ago, BRRC featured Les in a newsletter article, reproduced here for your information.  Over the coming days, we will be building a memorial page to Les on BRRC.com.  Check the website for more.

Team Store Now Open

The BRRC Team Store has opened again and will offer the same great gear as earlier in the year, plus cool and cold weather gear, all branded with the BRRC name and logo.  Choices include singlets, short sleeve technical shirts, long sleeve technical shirts, technical knit pull-overs, track pants, running hats, and knit skull caps.
Here's how the Team Store works:  go to this site.  Click on  the logo for BRRC.  You will be taken to a page with the clothing options.  Click on the image for the gear you are interested in, and you will be taken to a page for that gear.  Click the "Order" button, complete the form and click  "Add To Cart" below the form.  You may then check out or continue shopping.  At any time, you can go to the top bar of the site and click on "View Cart" and proceed to check out by putting in your information and credit card data.  Please note that you have the option of picking up the gear at Xsell's store on Harford Road or pay extra for shipping to your address.

The BRRC Team Store will remain open through Sunday, August 17, at which point all orders will be processed.  Two to three weeks later, you will be notified that the gear is available for pickup or has been shipped to you.  Gear should be in members' hands by September 5.  Please note that all orders will be processed together the week of August 18, regardless of when you place your order.

Did They Really Do That?

Tom Nasuta has been keeping track of Baltimore Area Ultra Runners for a number of years now, and he has updated the information on our Ultra page on the website.  The Baltimore Area Ultra Runner List continues to be updated monthly. From January to July 2014,  41 Men and 18 women have completed 137 ultramarathons (31, 50, 100 miles and several 24 and 48 hour events).

Read Tom's summary to see what some of our remarkable members are accomplishing in the world of ultra endurance events.  Absolutely amazing!

A special thanks to Tom for keeping tabs on our Ultra members.

Quote of the Month

"Every mile I run is my first.  Every hour on the roads a new beginning.  Every day I put on my running clothes, I am born again.  Seeing things as if for the first time, seeing the familiar as unfamiliar, the common as uncommon."
- Dr. George Sheehan

Seeking Volunteers

We are seeking members to volunteer with events in 2014.  There are opportunities for directing races, assisting with races, and helping with club administration.  Our strength as a Club is dependent on the commitment of our volunteers.  Please let us know that you would like to help.
